I always check Zidaho.com for private sales.

Also you post a wanted on Craigslist in the sporting goods section.

Just don't make it sound like you are looking for a gun and the anti's won't know what you are looking for.

BIG 5 has them for about $160 on sale every now and then.  watch the weekly ad for the sales.

they are at the corner of Milwalke and Frankin.  next to Toys-R-us.

Tomac,

I treated myself to one on my birthday last Thursday, I got mine at Cliff's in Meridian.  He didn't have them out but I was looking at some "odds and ends" that were behind a counter and the guy (wasn't Cliff, Gary I think) brought out a new one from another room.

I think the price was 160 and then they had some 20 rd. magazines that were 20 bucks a pop.  I know many people regard the SKS as junk or what have you, but after shooting a friend of mine's I liked it enough to add one to my collection.  For the price it was pretty hard to beat!

Right now I am looking at putting a scope on it but I am running into some problems.  From what I can tell there are a couple different ways for them to attach, one being on a rail and the other is a process where they attach it directly to the bolt cover? ..so that you don't have to remove the scope when cleaning the rifle after use.  I don't know a lot about this particular rifle but I'm learning.  I also ordered a bi-pod for it and in that case there are 2 different kinds, one is a lug mounted (by all means, anyone feel free to correct my terminology) in which you must remove the bayonet in order to attach the bi-pod.  The other is a clamp style that clamps over part of the barrel.

Anyone with suggestions or ideas on scopes for the SKS please reply, I was looking on Cabela's at some but all the user reviews there were pretty negative because there ended up being "filing" involved with getting the scope to fit properly.   I've read where in general the SKS is not the most user friendly or practical rifle in general to apply a scope to.  Perhaps a replacement rail and a red dot would be more appropriate.

I have the mount that replaces the dust cover and the mount that goes down over the dust cover and has to be drilled and tapped into the reciever.  the one that needs drilling & tapping is by far a more secure mount but it becomes a PITA when you want to clean.  so it depends on what you really want.

i'm not currently using either.  i'm kindof an iron sights kinda guy (except my hunting rifle)

if you want to see them first hand i'll bring them along on thursday if you're coming.  i've also got the bipod that attaches to the bayo lug.

- 3-20 round mags / 1-25 round mag / 1-5 round mag
- 300 rounds of 7.62x39 Wolf ammo
- Safe stored

I have a Yugo that have has  the scope mounted to a replacement receiver cover.  While I have read that this type can be very inaccurate because of mismatched fitting parts, The guy I bought it from had access to a lot of covers and found a nice tight fit.

The scope if about as accurate as this rifle can get, about 3" groups at 125 yards, which is good enough for me.

Oh and it loves Wolf ammo, no excuses.

You are better off getting an SKS than a mini 30.
Cheap, reasonably accurate and semi auto.
They don't jam either...

Could you ask for more from a $150 rifle ;D
