I'm getting an AR!
« on: June 20, 2007, 09:27:06 PM »
I'm stoked!  I got a good deal on a new Rock River AR15!  It's the 20" varmint model.  I'll post pics of it and the EMP when I get my hands on them.  I'm expecting it will take a week or so.

Now I just need to decide on optics.  I have something mind that, on paper, is everything I'm looking for.  However, I don't know a thing about the maker.  Do any of you know anything about Leapers?  I'm considering their 3-12 x 44mm Compact SWAT with mil-dot.

Oh, I'll be there for pizza tomorrow night, too.

Excellent.  I don't know anything about Leapers.  I'm running a Nikon Tactical 2.5-10, a Tasco 2.5-10, a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x, and an ACOG.  I have a 16x Super Sniper on a bolt gun.  Your welcome to check them out.  But I doubt I'll make it to Pizza or shooting this week.

Good deal on the good deal.  every able-bodied Man should have one.  What's "EMP"

I do believe Leapers has the reputation of being crap.  No personal experience, It "should" hold up to killing pepsi cans, but have a more rugged optic in mind for SHTF.

I have a personal beef with putting a chicom crap on an AR.   10/22 maybe but not an AR.

that being said I just picked up an $8.00 dremmel from Harbor Freight  :o

I can't hear you over the sound of my own awesomeness.

EMP = Springfield Enhanced Micro Pistol.  It's a micro 1911 designed around short cartridges like the 45 GAP, 40S&W, & 9mm.  Apparently the 45 GAP didn't work for them.  I'm getting the 9mm flavored version.  If the nice ladies at Impact are correct, I still about 12 weeks to wait for it.

The AR, however, is in stock and ready to go.  I'll be calling the good man tomorrow and making shipping arrangements.

So, are Leapers Chinese?  That certainly would put a damper on things.  I'll look into it.  Most of what I've found so far are glowing reviews of people using them on air-rifles.  I have found one article on some testing done the model I'm considering and spoke highly of it.  One story doesn't make me comfortable one way or the other.

Congrats on the AR.  Like someone else said, every able bodied American should have at least one.

The Leapers that I've looked at are crap.  I'd go for a Bushnell, Super Sniper, or Nikon if you want something in the starter scope price range.

I have the same. RRA 20" Varminter. I put a Millet scope on it but have a Nikon Buckmaster that will be on it soon. I am not an expert on AR's but I love mine. Haven't had any trouble with it. A very solid, quality rifle. I posted a picture of it in "my toys" pg. 2. I am still working up some different loads for it.

congrats!

I just got my first as well, it is a RRA varmint 16"  just waiting on the barrel to be coated and a gas block to come in and i can pick it up.

I have the Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x40 Mildot in a LaRue SPR mount and the Nikon seems really well put together. we will see here pretty soon how it performs

I've got a Leapers 6x40 compact scope that makes apperances on my ARs from time to time and was on my SKS for a while too.  it's help up to the plinking i've done with it, but i've never actually put it on paper to get any "official" results.  it *seems* to hold zero. i've got it mounted in a carry handle scope mount that i'm taking off and putting on all the time so there is bound to be some play there.

honestly, i'm happy with it for the $40 i paid for it.  If i remember, i'll toss it in and bring it along tonight for you to check out if you'd like.
