Home made electronic caller
« on: February 02, 2007, 03:45:43 PM »
Here are a couple of links that show how to build your own electronic caller.

If you use an mp3 player you can download plenty of calls from Varmint Al's.

Anyone want to make one?

I am thinking of making one...

I bought the CD before I found out that I could download the calls.

All I need to do is hook my Ipod to an amplifier and speaker ;D

I built one and it works great.  I just need to finish the enclosure and I'll post some pics.  Should have pics up this week.

I found another web site that has a ton of mp3's.

I created a couple of playlists (20 and 30 minutes) for my Ipod and expect great things from this gadget.

I saw Jeffs today. It worked pretty damn good.

It's done and a winner I think.  Not counting the Ipod or the paint I think I have about $50 in it.  The box is just a cheap thing I got in the kitchen area in Walmart.  The speaker is just "glued" in with some shower caulking (basically white silicon sealer).  It might not last but it's what I had on hand.  I'd rather have used some elephant snot (3M weather seal adhesive) but the tube i had had hardened.

It's pretty loud.  R_Hutch even said it could even get too loud.  :D

BTW, the yellow stuff in the box are two microfiber hand towels (cheap stuff from Costco).  They are there just to keep things from moving around too much.  Plus I always like having one or two around when I'm hunting.

That's pretty slick Jeff.  Does the tray store inside the speaker tote?

There's no tray.  I mounted the speaker upside down so the flat part would get glued down.  The box is really too small for a tray.  There's not much room in there for anything but the towels, amp, speaker, Ipod, and wires.

I guess I'm confused, is all that gear under the lid I take it?  It looked like a tray which is why I asked?

That pic is looking straight down into the box.  The lid is off to the side out of the picture.

That thing is pretty awesome. Definately cheaper than buying something from FoxPro!  We'll give it a good test very soon.

Specs are in the link posted above.  And here.  :)

http://www.predatormastersforums.com/homemadeecaller.shtml

The amp is powered by some AA's I think.  It will run off of a 12v external power source.  I figured that if either the Ipod or the amp needed a better power supply I'd get a decent 12v battery from Batteries Etc. and drive things with it.

BTW, I looked for a cheap soft bag like in the link above but never found anything cheap enough or even the right size.  If anyone does find something I'd like to know for future reference.  ;)

I believe the wild hog mp3 can be found here :stick::

If anyone gets turned on by listening to it I really don't want to know.  :sex:
