Portable radios, what are you using?
« on: May 22, 2007, 03:39:50 PM »
I've been wanting to get a portable AM/FM/Shortwave radio that has it's own built in generator and doesn't need batteries.  I've seen several on the market but want to get a decent quality unit that isn't going to break on me after a couple uses.  What do you guys have/recommend?

Kaito KA-008L w/digital tuning: http://www.amazon.com/Kaito-Emergency-Digital-Tuning-KA008L/dp/B00065YNNE/ref=sr_1_1/104-4838119-8020720?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1180367812&sr=8-1 . Does a decent job for the price, has a built in generator as well as a solar panel for running the radio or charging the internal batteries (it also takes std AA's if the internals are dead).

That Summit looks pretty nice.  How does it sound?

I have a Grundig YB-400 and it's touchy now.  I get a bunch of crappy static unless I get the volume knob just right (obviously there is a problem with the hardware).  It's been a pretty nice radio but I'm thinking about replacing it.

My summit works like a dream! I have only charged it once, and now I just get it out in the sun when I am doing something outside, and it is still going strong. ;D

That one looks like what I wanted, built solid.  Thanks AR10er!
