The Bug Out By Halffast

You won't like this story but you might learn something from it. I hope it motivates you to be prepped and ready to go at anytime.

While you may consider yourself a prepper, but how fast can you leave you primary home if it had to happen? Not just leave but leave with some of your preps, at least enough preps to stay alive.

Are you in the cities , do you know how to leave quickly?

How accessable if your preps, or are they buried under stuff somewhere?

I haven't linked to one site to get this story but click on the link, it is on numerous sites, some you need to be registered, most you do not.

A good read, and hopefully will make one think about there plans.

Thing to think about:

Timeline: These all build upon themselves.

1 Minute warning: AKA American Revolution Minuteman Style. ATF kicking in door. Gangsters/robbers kicking in door for your brand new Plasma HD Hi-Def Wonder TV. This would be a rifle with 3-5 loaded magazines in a carrying system of some sort. Pistol mags, med pouch, etc.

10 Minute warning: BOB, which is different from your GHB. Throw on clothing appropriate for the weather.

30 Minute warning: MRE cases, gas cans, canned food, Cases of ammo, guns, etc. Food, Water, Shelter.

1 Hour warning: More of same - maybe last minute check of your vehicles status.

etc.

Run some drills occasionally with no warning for your family. Or have your friends work an agreement to randomly test you - let them know that they need to institute the timeline.

Hated it.  Lasted maybe a page.  Some people shouldn't survive.
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Your not suppose to like it....

It does give a reailty check. I read this a couple years ago, less just say with two daughters I didn't like it either.

It does hold up a mirror and that's might be why we don'tlike what we see, or what we fear we will see.

I don't have a wife and kids so there was no mirror there.

Interesting story.
America is at an awkward stage, it's too late to work within the system, and to early to shoot the bastards.

True, I am way more prepared then the guy in the story, have been for years but it made me think of things I haven't really given much if any thought to in years, and since moving a couple times in that period and neglecting to reorganize like I should I realized It would take me longer to load up then I would like. I would never need to go to the store or get gas like him. But still everything always take twice as long as you think it going to take so factor that into you time.

Always organize your gear,

Camping gear is in those large plastic boxes from Walmart. Just grab and go with them
Spare clothing for kids that have been bought ahead of time, in plastic boxes also. One for each person. Winter/summer clothing isn't stored in closet it is in plastic boxes ready to go also.

Gas can always full and rotated every couple of months.

Ammo cans and a couple plastic boxes ready in the reloading area to grab these items. (This will take the longest to load (unbolt reloader from bench)

Min. tool set in the truck ready to go.

Roof top cargo carries always ready to go. These will be strapped with ratchet straps instead of normal strap and filled with loose clothing to make that go quicker.

Camping backpacks, BOB, day packs are always filled and ready to load just need water.

Important info, documents, birth certificates, account info, registrations etc are in one fire proof safe ready to grab and go.

Guns have hard cases and can be loaded quickly. Kids know how to help do this.

We had the truck and trailer loaded in 30 mins last year when that fired scared us and we didn't know if  we were going to be leaving out house due to a grass fire.  That was a good test. made us buy more boxes and change how we handled spare/out of season clothing.
