357 mag primers

I have a question, I just picked up a set of dies for 357 magnum, do I need to use small pistol primers ?? OR  do I need to use small pistol MAGNUM primers ?? thank you

It depends on the load and powder you are going to use.  In general, magnum primers are used in heavy loads with slow burning powder such as WW296.  Standard primers are used with faster burning powders.  Use the information in your reloading manual as a guide to what primers you need to use.  You have a manual, right?

Some slow burning powders will use magnum primers. Most powders do not, so standard primers will be correct.
I think it's safe to assume if the loading manual doesn't specify magnum primers with the specific load you are using, then standard primers are called for.
The thickness of the cup is greater on magnum primers also a little hotter for large charges of bulky powder.

 Take a look at the load data in the reloading manual......
 I use Federal primers and win as well lots of good reloading
information..........Load a 180gr Hornady for the  mountains
and load 38 loads for most are else into shotshell loads..snakeloads
use different size shot for hunting lots of fun......

Thank you all for your answers, I appreciate it. You guys are great although I am not so sure I want to meet that J Mack fellow, whew, scary. ((( I do not know if this is a great price but as of today they had a boatload of the PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ .223's at Cabelas, $7.99, the guy said they had a bunch of it in the back to )))  Thank you again. DR. Gunshow in Homedale Feb/28/09 at 0900 and the day after Mar/01/09

I don't know about magnum primers as I never use them. If is requires a small primer I use rifle. In rifle and pistol.
