ASSASSINS targeting Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony have been warned they face being cut down in a hail of two million bullets.

Obama will become the best-guarded world leader in history when he is sworn in on January 20.

In an operation estimated to cost $20million, America’s new president will be shielded from danger by 11,500 soldiers and 4,000 officers from 96 police forces.

US Air Force fighters will patrol the skies over Washington D.C. as Obama swears his oath of allegiance on the White House south lawn.

As many as five million people are expected to descend on the capital, according to city mayor Adrian Fenty.

And Hollywood stars including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Sharon Stone and Beyoncé will headline scores of glittering “after parties”.

Four thousand police officers, many from neighbouring states West Virginia and Philadelphia, will handle “on-the-streets” law enforcement.

They will be backed up in the event of an emergency by 4,000 National Guardsmen, with a further 7,500 federal troops on standby at strategic points outside the city limits. 

Asked about estimated total firepower, a Defence Department spokesman said: “How does two million plus rounds of ammunition sound?”

That awesome firepower, if needed, would come from thousands of standard, army-issue M16A2 rifles, designed for either shoulder or hip-fired automatic and semi-automatic shooting.

At least 20 Secret Service teams of two agents will protect Obama, his family, Vice President Joe Biden and other members of the government.

All agents will be armed with the Service’s “primary weapon” – the SIG Sauer P229 pistol specially-chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge – as well as a range of close combat weapons, including the IMI Uzi.

Air Force General Victor E. Renuart Jr, a senior commander in the combined forces operation, said: “It would make news for a terrorist or rogue element to interrupt this event. So it is prudent to plan for the possibility of this happening and deter it or respond to it.”

That response also takes into account the possibility of a hi-tech “electronic attack” – similar to the fictitious assault in the 2007 Bruce Willis film Die Hard 4 – aimed at paralysing Washington.

Teams of computer experts at the city’s J. Edgar Hoover Building – the bureau’s national HQ – will be monitoring
utilities and transportation systems for any signs of hacking or intrusion.

Northern Command military counter-intelligence units and the CIA will also be monitoring global movements of known terrorist cells.

But one of the “worst case scenarios” is that a lone, armed attacker with no previous history of crime or violence somehow slips their net.

As America’s first black president, fears of a race hate-fuelled assault on Obama have already sparked a massive FBI probe into ultra right-wing extremist groups.

This followed the arrests of three neo-Nazis who targeted him at the Democratic Party Convention in August.

Despite the fact they were bunglers, an arsenal of weapons, including high-powered rifles, was found in one of their vehicles.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff immediately doubled Obama’s personal Secret Service guard – an unprecedented move for a president-in-waiting.

But yesterday, a senior FBI agent said: “That’s going to look like play time compared to the army that will guard him when he is sworn in as president.”

11,500 soldiers and 4,000 officers

backed up in the event of an emergency by 4,000 National Guardsmen, with a further 7,500 federal troops

plus 20 Secret Service teams of two agents (40)

comes to 27040 personnel

27040 divided by 2 million rounds = 73.9 rds per personnel

Pffff.....Yeah I got them beat.

As I said, this article is full of failings.

Alot more SS agents will be present than the 20 teams of 2. Just watch President Bush's motorcade.

Most SS/FBI agents and local LE will only carry 2 extra mags if that. So figure 13 rounds per mag for an average. One in the chamber. And 2 extra mags. That equals = 40 rounds per non Longgun carrying officer/agent.

BTW, anyone want a 357 magnum SIG? Sure would be worth alot for collectors value.

I think its funny how the acronym for the secret service is SS.  But on a serious note, dont the SS that actually have body guard duty carry PS90s now?  Short barrel version of course.

Bush vs. Gore - That was a controversial election, with Gore side screaming the Bush stole the election, voter fraud, taking it all the way to the supreme court and back. I would have expected that some left wing wacko would have made some sort of attempt.

Today, we have a rather peaceable election of Bho, and you have all these extraordinary actions being taken. Shutting down DC. No cars in or out, mass bussing of all people to and from the site, huge guard force.

Is this normal for a inauguration?  I have done several events where POTUS has been at, and the SS do take their job seriously, and are a royal PIA to work with at times. They shut down event centers, and cause huge lines to form to get into venues. But is this a normal compliment of force for an inauguration, and the UK trash mags are making a big deal, or is this truly an massive overwhelming undertaking, that is beyond what we have seen int he past?

I would have to agree that this was just poor reporting. The moron could have gone to the sig web site and verified his information even though he is a liberal press boy.

Unless our tax dollars are now going to buy super secret compactable .357 rounds that magically fit into the space of a .38 super until they magically stretch back out to fire in a pistol designed for nothing larger than a 1.125 OAL cartridge.

The SBR version are the P90's and come standard with 10.4 in barrel with full auto, the PS90 is the civilian version.

a lot of people knock this rifle around as being infective or too small a caliber, but in reality, it really is a bad ass gun.

Yeah, if the bullets that were originally released for them were available, I'd like one. The current rounds available are not as deadly IMO.

I would see this as a useful gun for CQB work when you have to get into and out of vehicles on a regular basis, plus it looks more like a toy than the standard short barrel M4 so it might scare the sheeple a little less.

Downsides 8+ lb trigger with a lot of creep and overtravel. This is pretty hard to avoid with all the required linkage to get the trigger to the firing mechanism in the back.

What better way to incite chaos then stage an attempt on a president at his inauguration especially the first black president. Seriously doubt it's because of the cold this is pretty standard these days for swat and entry teams etc. to wear masks.

Eh, I wont speak for other "goons" but many SOU or SWAT operators have good reason for masks. Often times the guy who is on the swat team is also a narcotics detective. Its true that there is a certain intimidation factor when it comes to tactical entry and the baclava plays into that but there are other reasons as well. Just a thought to ponder

From the horses mouth, NPD TRT, the reason for the balclava is to help scare whomever they are effecting entry on.

Don't forget that the nomex material of the mask will help when flashbangs are being deployed. If you've ever been near one outdoors let alone indoors you'll want goggles and a nomex facemask.
