5.11 Tactical VTAC Single Point Sling
« on: January 12, 2009, 06:26:43 AM »
Has anyone ever used one of these? I'm trying to decide on a single-point, and so far I'm looking at the 5.11 VTAC and the Blackhawk Storm. I realize that everyone has their personal preferences when it comes to slings, but I'm just trying to get some input here.

Brian, there are two types of slings that are the end all of slings at this time. Both are 2 Point for a reason.

1. Vickers Combat Applications Sling a.k.a. VCAS. Also available in a padded version. MADE IN THE USA

2. Vicking Tactics 2 point VTAC sling. Padded. It is made by Blackhawk and 5.11 so it is cheaper in materials and made overseas.

I like the VCAS  personally. Either sling will be the best and only style of sling you need to own. Trust me when I say that Single Point slings are not the way to go. If you want I can post a picture of how my VCAS is set up on my AR.

Edited to clarify that these are 2 point slings.

I am very parial to the V-Tac.  It is very functional and FAST.  It is also what Bennie Cooley, Dave Neth, and I think Robbie Johnson and Daniel Horner use....possibly the four best riflemen in nation...oh yea...Kyle Lamb too.

I just got the EMDOM URS.  Haven't had a chance to play with it much yet, but I like it so far.

I have the Vickers VTAC, but the VCAS looks like it may improve on the VTAC setup... Hmm.

Well I don't have a front sling stud anymore, so single-point is the way to go, unless adapters are included?

Do you have a rail on the front? If so buy this: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Midwest-Industries-MCTAR-08-p/mctar-08.htm

If not then look at these adapter kits:

http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=94

Brian, you will only buy again if you buy the single point. Trust those of us who have posted in this thread already. Send me some pics of how your rifle is set up right now - FB is fine.

I'm going to post a picture to give you an example of where I'm suggesting placing the QD swivel.

It appears that your Gas Block has picatinny rail on the side of it. Kind of like this model:
http://www.midwayusa.com/midwayusa/staticpages/highres/116594.jpg

So attach the QD swivel attachement to that and then attach the sling to the back of the rifle. I can send you a picture or upload one on hear of how Idaho Corsair and I came up with an cheap - 5" of 550 cord - way to make the VCAS lay flat on the standard CAR stock. It will work until you make the upgrade to the goodness that is the Magpul CTR.
