Ruger 22/45
« on: April 20, 2007, 11:09:40 PM »
Some of you may have heard that I bought a Ruger 22/45 recently.  Well, one of the reasons I bought the 22/45 was because I got a Tactical Solutions upper for one in a deal.  Unfortunately, the 22/45 was jamming several times a mag with the Tac Solutions upper.  I talked to Ryan at Impact about it and he told the Tac Solutions guys about it.  They had me take it to their shop and drop off.

I'm happy to say that it is now functioning 100%.  As it turns out I think the main problem turned out to be some over-sized parts in the Ruger bolt.  So, if any of you decide to get a Ruger and a Tac Solutions upper and run into problems let me know.  I can show you what was done to mine to make it run great.

I can say that I was frustrated and down on the Tac Solutions upper but I've done a 180.  It's super light, smooth as butter, and pretty accurate.  I'll most likely have it with me when we're out in the desert so let me know if you want to give it a try.

BTW, I'm not going to post any pics so no whining about it please.  ;)

How did you like the 22/45 before the barrel swap ?

My wife really likes my fathers old Mk II and i was thinking about picking up either a 22/45 or Mk III for her to plink with.

Didn't like it much.  The heavy barrel and light frame made it feel somewhat awkward.  The frame still needs some work.  I'm going to mill the handle down to 1911 thickness, install 1911 grip screws, and put on some hogue finger groove grips.  Then it'll be right.  ;)

She should get to a gun shop and handle them both.  I never liked the Luger/Glock grip angle.  The 1911 is perfect for me so that's why I got the 22/45.

My daughter likes the Ruger 22/45 best of the .22lr pistols.

While my boys wants the Walter P22, which from what I read needs some tuning to work consistently well.

We are moving out to the ranch this week and have caught two different bull snakes over three feet long.

Looking forward to finding a rattle snakes , those we while kill and eat.., mmmm

I think that she likes the 22/45 Hunter more then the Mk III. I will still have to pick one up and handle it though. it seems like they would feel unbalanced with to long of a bull barrel.

She likes how the Mark III is racked. She likes the tabs on the back better than the slide system.

Found this holster and didn't want to lose the link.  :)  I think I'm going to order a Pilot Holster.
