Truck/Car winter Preparness Kit
« on: December 28, 2008, 11:45:10 PM »
So after all the excitement of pulling people out of the snow that had 4x4's on Saturday, made me start thinking about what I have in my truck for emergency situations.

What's in yours? What should we have in there?

I have or will have shortly.   :) the following:
Chains
Flares
Tow strap (chains)
Jumper Cables
First aid kit
Shovel

What else should be there?

Emergency rations and water.  Maybe even a tab fuel stove for small heat.

At least one wool blanket.  More if you think you'll have passengers.

Food.  Water.

Salt or snow melt.

Good lists only one thing to add

2 50lb sacks of sand.

Don't forget a trailer to pack everything in as the list gets longer :) Or just haul a fully stocked 5th wheel.

Well let's see...

Location - Parma Range
Conditions - Snowing and high winds causing large drifts
(Couldn't tell the edge of the road from the barrow/drainage pits)

First up - AG the Match Director - Stuck trying to get his Ford Explorer in 4x4 mode, to the pistol pits, just plain too much snow on the road and he could go no further.

RG towed him out, or was it TG.

Next up - RG slipped over the edge of the road next to the club house, about 2-3 feet of snow drifting hide the drainage area quite well.

I believe we used 2 trucks to tow him out as well. One pulling forward and one pulling sideways.

Next up, refer to the pictures on the IPDA AAR thread for TG downfall, 2 trucks daisy chained together to pull him out. Oh, yeah, he got stuck in virtually the same place RG did.

Last up, Zona got a little too far to the right about 10' from the pavement coming out of the Range, and stuck it in a big old drift that was building up. Just took 1 rig to pull him out.

Yup, it was a day of craziness at the ole range.
