That Russian "Whisper" rifle
« on: April 19, 2007, 04:57:31 PM »
Anyone here have, or shot one of the "whisper" .22s out of the Tula plant?  I just ordered one, they are calling it "match grade" but I'm sceptical.  Then again if it goes pop and puts holes in squirrels it is worth the $120 with the 3-9 chicom scope.

Anyone?

Ok,
The rifle came in.  First impression is very un-toylike has a solid feel, adjustable trigger, the cheap Chi-com scope turned out to be a Tasco Pronghorn 3X9 with Leapers rings.  The action is smooth and the trigger is crisp it is set at about 7 lbs.  I'll lighten the trigger and mount the scope, don't know if I'll get out to shoot it this weekend but I hope so.  The wood is adequate with some decent checkering, the safety lever is ahead of the trigger and I've heard some complaints about its position but it seems very ergonomic to me.  I'll take some pics and post them this weekend.  The painted on ebony forend is great!!!

Here is a closeup of the action

Here is the safety (it's a lever)

I have to confess that after shooting this rifle I want one.  It is a quality made item and solidly built.  The adjustable trigger is very sweet (did you adjust it back down from the 1.5lb pull yet?).  I can't wait to see what it will do off a rest at 100yds, the 25yd target was shot off the back of Longshot's pickup and wasn't the steadiest of shooting platforms.
