Review of Defensive Edge new ACI/ACD Nightforce cap ring
« on: December 27, 2008, 07:05:17 PM »
I’ve been using the new Anti-Cant/Angle Cosine Indicator Nightforce ring cap from Defensive Edge for a few months now.  In my opinion this is a great piece of kit for your rifle.  Instead of cluttering up your scope rail or scope tube with various attachments of cosine indicators and anti-cant bubbles, this ingenious little ring cap combines it all into one unit.  It is hard anodized matte black and can be used on any of the Nightforce rings, including the LW rings and uni-mount.  I believe that there will be units for other brands of rings in the future.

As you can see in this picture the bubble level is on top where the scope ring cap would normally be and the angle cosine indicator is integral to the cap.  The ACI is kept in place via a dove tail mount and a set screw inside the cap.

Here’s a view from the “cockpit”.   I’m easily able to see the bubble level and ACI from my left eye, while still keeping my right eye looking through the scope.

Here’s a few more pictures:

I’ve shot around 200 rounds with the new ACD/ACI top cap on with no indication of it coming loose or my scope getting out of alignment.  So far I’m really happy with it and like the way it keeps my scope and scope rail from getting cluttered up.  It's a good piece of kit!

So in summary:

Pros: The ACD/ACI top cap offers a nice clean, "all in one place" option for your long range rifle.  It will prevent cluttering up your scope and/or scope rail.

Cons: I can't think of any, except maybe cost.  But if you bought everything individually, you'll still be around the same cost.

Best Uses: This unit is best used for Long range rifle use or for hunting purposes.

Duration Used: Thus far I've used the ACD/ACI top cap for around 6 months now.

Where purchased:(add URL if possible)  I bought this from Defensive Edge in Rathdrum, ID.

Cost: $195 with ACI unit, $100 without ACI.

Rating: (1 through 5, 5 being best): I give this unit a 5
