This is the cover of our catalog.  I didn't take it, but I thought you might like it.  It is a DPMS we borrowed from a friend of ours.

zona5101 ,
No offense taken, I actually took a few with a gelled snoot from the top right...Actually I was expecting Jeff to offer more technical review than anyone else, I was trying to work on some ideas I got from the strobist website...deals with using my on camera flashes off camera.
Thanks for noticing the lack of detail in the muzzle area, I will take a look at the .raw files and see if i just blew it out in the post.

Naw, I'm not being hard on Jeff. It is obvious he knows what he's doing with a camera. If it was just a snapshot I wouldn't have said a thing except "cool gun" - but his skill level is beyond snapshot...so I was offering a suggestion/opinion. (I hope he took it that way.)

Sorry Zona.  I was, in my obviously poorly done way, trying to make a joke about your extensive knowledge of photography.  I didn't even think you were trying to critisize Jsamules at all, and I agree.  He did a good job.

Sweet pic. looks like 3 lights and probably a fill reflector... big light in a soft box and the other two with barndoors/grids. Were you there when the guy took the shot?

your sti's shots look like single light source and are well done too.

Yea, the guy that did them had his first picture published when he was 10.  If I am not mistaken, he was also one of the first guys to ever use a digital camera to do photography "work".
This was at the very end of the two day session and I was busy cleaning up so I didn't get to see the whole thing, but what you are describing sounds familiar.  It was taken on the floor of our shop!
Thank for the comments on the STI pics.  It is hard to get good pics on the kitchen floor with one 60 watt bulb  ;D

TG,

Is that the firebreather you were talking about this morning?

Tell W congrats on a fine rifle.
That is the one!  Mom and Dad came over for dinner tonight and he had to show it off again.  I'll let him know.

Stobist  - cool site. It is amazing what folks can do with portable shoe mount strobes. And now days it is so much simpler than before. Strobes that "talk" to the camera & each other untethered! Think about doing some of that stuff with a 283 or some old school flash. PC cables, peanut slaves, and a flash meter!
HAHAHAHAHA...im actually using a vivitar 273/w optical slave and my minolta flash mounted on a tripod /w a shoot through umbrella...I am sure if i broke out the alien bees and cords could replicate the softlight look of the other photos...I was just bored after reloading for a few hours and and used what was in the bag.
I did look at the detail in the muzzle area..lil dodging and wha laaa

PS...color is off due to ProRGB Profile

America is at an awkward stage, it's too late to work within the system, and to early to shoot the bastards.
