Um "nonstandard" loading
« on: April 19, 2007, 11:27:22 AM »
Awright Spiff and the rest of you experts...
Really I am looking for some help as a newbie reloader.  I can read the load data and it makes sense and my procedures will improve with practice but I want to work up a subsonic load for both 7.62X39 and an 8X57 Mauser.  What powder/charge should I use, a light load of pistol powder coupled with a heavier bullet?

I have no experience with sub-sonic rifle loads. If Hodgdon is listing the above loads, they should at least be safe. Might be a good thing to ask on one of the bigger forums.

Is it correct the only things I need to worry about are stuck bullets and unburnt powder deposits for phart loads?

That makes sense to use slow burning shotgun powders with such a light load.  Otherwise I'd be afraid of a detonation with such a small powder charge.
