What's the minimum selection of currently available canned foods that would provide good balanced nutrition for the best value? TIA!...

Spam and peanut butter............ and now they TURKEY SPAM........not bad.....
Most can goods have about a two year shelf life. yet most are still good after that
The LDS church has can foods and a good buy.....Get a member to get it for you...
Best thing we found was to start canning our stuff from the garden.......
Rotate your stock and mark on a list as to what you use and get what you can when
 you go to the store.

Peanut butter lasts about a year before it goes bad.  Spam is a good choice, as is canned corned beef.  Just about any canned vegi is ok, and is good to eat as long as the can isn't bulging.  Chili, corned beef hash (in addition to corned beef lunchmeat), tuna, tuna, tuna... keeps until the radiation goes away.  ;)  Most modern foods are good to go for at least a year, such as crackers, cereals, etc., so long as they are kept in their original un-opened packages  Hope this helps.  We keep a little bit of everything... but especially those foods that we wouldn't have to heat up to eat it if we were in that sort of situation.

what I've been stocking of late for canned:  cases of chili, and the 6 packs from Costco of the roast beaf and chicken

a can of chili mixed with rice will feed all three of us a very satisfying meal

Anything with fat in it will likely go rancid after a while.  However, canned food is almost always good for a couple of years.  Stay away from ramen noodles.  The fat in there goes rancid pretty fast.

The only cans I've stored that went bad were fruit.  The cans actually bludged and leaked.

Yes, peanut butter goes bad.  It's the fatty oils - it'll go rancid.  BLEH!
