Save the cash.

Find a solid rest where the rifle won't move, look down the barrel(the non-killing end) and align it on an identifiable spot. Then look through the scope and adjust the crosshairs until they are on the same spot and you're GTG.

I fire a round at 25yds and adjust the scope according to the hit then fire another. If things line up I go to 100yds fire three and adjust the scope. Three more to check....

Thanks for the replies all.  I had never used a laser bore sight before, never thought they were necessary.  After having issues sighting in a rifle a week ago I wondered if they would be worth it.  I think we'll try the method you listed RG and let you all know how it works out.  Thanks for the help.

You mean boresighting isn't enough?  ???  I mean they use lasers and everything!!  Besides everytime I try to adjust my scope the deals just seem to get loose and almost fall off I just have to tighten them back up and correct my aim manually....  What's the secret ???

For what those laser bore sighters cost I'll just stick with my Bushnell bore sighter.  JR you're more than welcome to come over and use it any time.

I bought mine on eBay but you can get one here for $58 shipped.

Thanks for the replies all, and for the offer AZ.

FWIW, I was asking this question for my father who was having some issues sighting in his AR.  I'm happy to report that he got it figured out...without spending any money on a laser bore sight.
