Well, my 12 year old and a couple of friends and I went to Warm Lake to hunt the burns. I'd scouted out several areas a few weeks ago and saw lots of fresh sign. We ended up getting skunked. Once again, there was plenty of fresh sign (tracks and feces), but they seemed to be moving only at night. Did hear an elk bugle twice, but that was it. There was almost as much elk sign as deer.
Sunday morning, we saw one muley as we were driving to a new spot to try, but it was about an hour before we could shoot. Tracked him up Klein mountain, once we could see, but he lost us. The lodge owners up there said the wolves moved back into the area two weeks ago and the animals stopped moving. We did find a doe carcas that apparently didn't get the memo about the wolves. Something made a meal out of her. Yah, those wolves are endanged...

I'd like my 12 year old to get his first deer, so we're going to try our luck here in unit 39 for the rest of the week in the evenings after school. I'm hoping to find something up in the WMA.
On the bright side of the weekend - it was great taking my son out on his first big game hunt. The afternoons were beautiful up there. There's ice forming around the edge of the lake, already. The mornings we hunted were definately chilly.
