.300 Whisper
« on: October 15, 2008, 09:56:09 PM »
Anyone have anything chambered in .300 Whisper, .300 Fireball, or .300/221 or whatever else is basically the same?

I've searched the web and have found most (all?) of the good web resources on this round and am looking for some first hand experience.  I'd like to primarily know what dies you are using.  And if you size .223 brass or not.

Yea, you might gather from this thread, I have a barrel on the way.

A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

these people sell dies for the "special rounds" like 300 whisper and 338 whisper:  ($68)

SSK (J.D. Jones) is the inventor of the .300 Whisper and .338 Whisper. I believe he owns the trademark on the "Whisper" designation, hence the .300 Fireball and .300-221 designations for the non-SSK loads that are essentially the same. I have very minimal trigger time with them but I was impressed. My buddy was shooting an 18" barreled upper with 240gr. subsonic loads with decent "minute-of-badguy" accuracy out to 300 yards. Spooky quiet, a lot better ballistics than a subsonic 5.56mm, will cycle the action of the AR-15, and in subsonic loadings you can get away with using a 9mm SMG suppressor on them to keep down the weight on the nose of the system.

My barrel is for a Savage bolt gun.  The AR barrel will come later.  Looks like 110 Vmax's up to 240 SMK's but will probably use the Nosler 125 BT's (supersonic) and 200 Gamekings (subsonic) for coyotes.  ;)  Now I just need the affordable can for it.

Here ya go -

ETA: sorry, that's illegal and I'd rather not have that here.

OK, sorry, don't want to get anybody in trouble.  It would be legal if you paid the tax on it. :)
