Topic: Change layout?

I'm thinking about moving Firearms, Ammo, Reloading, Hunting, Preparedness, and Swap Meet to the public side.  I don't see us posting anything super secret in them.  Anybody have a problem with it?  If we have more in the public it might make it more interesting to the lurkers (maybe enticing them to join).  The Events, Shooting Spots, and Group Buys do have info that shouldn't be made public.

I guess I'm used to the free for all that is ARFCOM HTF.  it just seems that we could group related topics in the same place.    one forum for Firearms that would include reloading, one for Preparedness that would include hunting, one for swap meet & group buys, & one for furry porn.

First, we need/want a place to have our group info.  The wiki was the first attempt.  Unfortunately, it required people to learn how to add/edit things.  We all know how to add/edit forum posts.  Just because we have a forum doesn't mean there will be a bunch of traffic.  It's simply a place for us post info that we can find again.  This place won't archive and searching won't be limited.

Some of our info needs to be private.  We have no way to do that on ARFCOM.  The wiki was all or none.  Here we have control over what's private and what's not.

Second, there are rules at ARFCOM that none of us like.  For example, we want to post things for sale to our group and that's not allowed in the HTF.  We own the rules here so we can decide as a group what we want to allow.

Just because we have a public side doesn't mean we need to advertise it.  It's simply that we control what's public so why not allow it.

This isn't an attempt to replace the ARFCOM forums (I think I posted that before).  It's just a place for us to post info we care about.  Hopefully, in a way that we can easily find it again.  Searching the ARFCOM HTF sucks.  Realistically, anything we want to find again will require reading every post again.  And once the post is archived it's out of reach to the non-team members.

Also, there's no rule that says someone has to use this resource.  I hope people will but know some won't.

Keep things seperated and organized like it is Jeff.  I like the layout, more of what I'm use to on my old forum back in AZ.  Just my .02 worth.  Yes make some of the forums viewable by guests, that will entice new members if that's the goal.

yeah it's really easy to find what you're looking for organized this way.  i like the swap meet idea.  we can advertise to us locals before we try the EE or classifieds.

moving a few fourms to public would be ok too.

I think the format it good. I like the segregation.

Also, I can easily see this forum replacing the HTF on arfcom for me. Other places on arfcom that I frequent such as the reloading and survival forum won't be that easily replaced. At least in the foreseeable future due the lack of variety.

And we can always post a weekly, or bi-monthly post letting everyone know that this forum exits.
