.308 110 VMAX vs water & phone book (pictures)
« on: September 27, 2008, 04:55:48 PM »
My wife went with me to the range today and shot my LR-308 for the first time, she did awesome.

I loaded up some 110 v-max with a starting load of RL15.  This is the bullet Hornady uses in their 110 grain TAP load and has excellent terminal ballistics so I was excited to see what it would do with a starting load.

We were shooting out at Nampa and target was 50 yards away. I normally shoot 168 MatchKing, at 50 yards the 110 Vmax required no scope adjustment, very low recoil but operated the LR-308 perfectly.

The first water target is a 96 OZ container, weighing about 6.2 lb + weight of the plastic.   The box is about 3 feet tall.

My wife took the shot (her first shot with the rifle) and nailed it.   In this shot the container was ~ 3 feet in the air, it landed roughly 9 feet from original location and was split in half.

Next is a 1 gallon jug of water, also at 50 yards.

And the shot

Finally I shot a phone book at 50 yards, entry was a normal .308 hole, here is the exit

and from the side

Looks like fun.  I'd like to hear how the accuracy is at 300-500 yards with the 110gr VMAX (that's where the pigs are fun for me).  ;)
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Craig Swap - One call - that's all.

That phone book is what a human head looks like after a FMJ hits it - least the part that's still attached to the body - - - -

The 110 TAP round does a great job on neutralizing a threat.
With a 18" barrel and a 250yd zero drops 3.9 at 300 and high point
in flight is 2.8 at 100yds with a muzzle velocity of 3050fps total penetration
9 3/4 inches and 82% fragmentation. Depth to max. cavity 4".
Now the rest of the story .....phone books a good idea to  open new pages..
