That's pretty cool.  OK, who is going to build one and show it off?

I'll bet you can get a tin box something like that from http://www.containerandpackaging.com in Eagle.  I may just have to check it out.  Maybe do a group buy on the boxes.  ;)

OK, stepping "outside the box" I know, sad humor..... but I was thinking maybe one of those big popcorn tins they have at Christmas might work?

Ok, we made our rocket stove! We could not located a tin box like the guy in the video had. We went to all the Oriental markets and all the restaurants and they say the square tin boxes used to hold some kind of cooking oil that is now supplied in plastic. We had to settle for a "planter" box that you see here. We have also been surprised by the sheer volume of ash you need to fill it up! We are going to have to burn the fire pit in the back yard for a while LOL. (sorry the pic is so poor) We will take it with us in October and give it a try!

Oh ya, LOL,  I forgot! we took the rocket stove hunting this year!! It worked like a dream............ for about an hour that is LOL. Heres the skinny.........

It was used to cook on a couple times with great success. As advertised it heats FAST and the ashes made a great insulator. It was even placed on the floor of a tent one morning with no damage to the tent, unfortunately that was its downfall. I never would have guessed it could create that kind of heat. When used for a long period the intense heat it generated melted the bottom of the 90" joint and actually burnned a hole through it. The melting metal smelled terrible. We decided we need to get a heavier guage of metal for the pipe. This may be our oversight because I dont remember the video guy saying that it needed to be a heavier gauge. Or perhaphs im just not that smart LOL.

Bottom line....... Rocket stove works great......... if you use the right pipe!

Here's a better more efficient stove then that one using wood gas (hydrogen). Google "wood gas" or "gasifier" for more info.

cool idea, i think for my wife and I we wanted something that would burn what we can find laying around without any preparation. I see it uses the same air from underneath theory to create a more intense flame. Looks alot cleaner too LOL

The gasifier is actually more efficient, a much cleaner burn for less fuel It actually extracts the hydrogen from the material and burns it, the wood is secondary hence "wood gas". they ran all kinds of vehicles all over the world during WWII using gasifiers on vehicles because of the shortages of gasoline. I was thinking a Fresnel lense could be used to light it.

OK, I'm thinking about ordering one of these Two Door Rocket Stoves.

[attachment=1]

Anyone seen one or have a good reason why I shouldn't get one?  Yes, I know I can build my own but I don't want to.  This one has a ceramic liner and some cast iron parts.  I want something more robust than a couple of paint cans.  ;)

I may go ahead and build a paint can version like Hawkiye's but this looks pretty good for $40.  Watch the videos.  ;)
