One persons take on Clint Smiths Tac shotgun class.

One of Clint Smiths biggest problems with the shotgun is it's limited magazine capacity. I have to agree. While helping with the Ironman this year it was evident that those with traditional shotguns, who were not shooting open class**, had a heck of a time reloading and keeping their time from spiraling away. This is where the Saiga shooters really had an edge using magazines.

**For those of you that don't know, open class shooters can use speed loaders.

Well...

Lets assume you were trying to kill me....

If I had a 9mm, it would probably take 5 or so rounds to stop you...

If was using 12 gauge 00 buck or a slug, it would probably take only 1 shot.

Shotguns have a better knock down factor...

Even in combat a shotgun is highly effective due to the knockdown power. When we were on bunker duty we had pump shotguns, and OO buckshot in brass cased shells. My partner Ira hit a VC with a load and the dude died right now. I think he shot him twice - never too dead for another shot.

In the bunker we didn't worry about the capacity of the shotgun. 5 I think and a few guys carried them on patrol. Didn't seem to be a big deal about capacity there either.

Ironman is not combat nor is it home protection. It's a shooting spree!!! And for time -  ;D

I try to never confuse reality and shooting contests. The only crossover is the increased ability to handle the weapon.

The Ironman is training for you and your equipment..
Have learned a lot the years that I was an RO and a
shooter now practice is best..
The MGM is not real life but a true test of equipment...
Come join in on the fun.....

It's only fun if your shooting it....working it and shooting it....not so much.  This is what you feel like after the fist day.  :nutkick:
