Fire in SE Boise
« on: August 25, 2008, 09:30:32 PM »
Well some houses on the north side of Columbia Village are burning

I live south of Columbia village out in the desert and right in the middle of dry grass parie desert.

I have got sprinklers on the roof of the house, and on the out buildings.

Hope it is enough. :o

Good luck!  If you need anything let me know.

BTW, we are sort of talking about this in the preparedness forum
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Well the good Lord spared us tonight.

If this fire had done any jumping it would have headed right for us.

We were right in the middle of the smoke path as it headed south.

The winds were intense , news said 20 or 40 miles an hour. It was blowing hard.

I have sprinklers running on the roofs of the buildings all night. The one on the house is 20 feet tall to cover the whole house. The house is rock along the bottom and metal siding so I like that.

This was a good bug out practice session, at least that was the Mrs. job to get things packed.

I was setting up sprinklers and found out a couple things.

The pump I used for pumping out a flooded basement is while good for that job is useless for running even one sprinkler. Plenty of volume but no real pressure. not even good for one impact sprinkler head.

Need to buy better pump if I want use the swimming pool as a water source!

Also placement of the sprinklers is a choice between do the wall get wet OR does the roof get wet? and what about the other side of the house.

Is the weeds high on the side of a out building , the side you never see? Needs  to do some cutting.

NGO - glad to know you and your family are ok.  Learning the lessons about your sprinklers, etc., has to be sobering.  Lets all pray for those who did lose their houses.

:(Yesterday Micron announces that they are laying off more people here.  :(Today this fire. Many of the folks who work there live in this area. That would be a double disaster whammy.  :(
