The records are available for anyone to go ask for.  The only problem I with this article is that they published the list on the internet (thereby allowing people to bypass any record of requesting the data).
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

I may be naive about this but .....uh fuck 'em.

I may be naive about this but I don't see how it would be harmful, anymore than any other personal info....criminals?  I think it would be a red flag for them to stay away, yes? Discrimination?  Hell,  I told my boss where to go get his CCW. & then proceeded to make fun of his carry piece.

If he found this information wouldn't it be public record?

Very simple..

Go to house listed on report...

Wait until the owner is away...

Steel gun collection.

Possible criminal minds at work:

Or, go to house listed and get shot when you think the homeowner is away.

I think it would be a less  likely target if the bad guys know you have a CCW.  Taking the steps to get a CCW means you are more likely to shoot someone.  I would guess criminals would be more interested in jewelry and flat screen tv's.

Most crime guns are not legally purchased.

If your local crack merchant wants a 9mm..he is going to get it from a street dealer.
The street dealer gets it from a straw purchaser...OR he gets it from some guy who stole it.

Guns are worth money and drugs on the street....

Did you read that thread title???

Topic:   Using published Concealed Carry Permitholder lists for gunshopping? :o

Every now and then a newspaper will publish a list of concealed carry permit holders under the guise of "free information." Oddly enough, they don't seem to publish lists of DUI offenders or sex offenders, but that isn't my concern.

Obviously no one would be dumb enough to rob someone face to face when they are likely to be carrying a gun, but it would make a very good shopping list. Some locations don't allow concealed weapons, forcing them to leave it in their car. If you spot their license tag outside one of those locations, a quick smash and search could pay off very well. Also, identifying them out and about would mean you're safe to make a run to their home and go in to see if there are any guns inside.

Sorry pv74, I didn't read the article.  I claim being sick as an excuse.

But, my original point still holds.  The only thing the columnist did wrong was to publish the info on the web.  It's certainly legal to get the info in Virginia without being a journalist.

I don't think that info should be available to FOIA requests but it is.  That's the voters job to fix in Virginia.
