"M.J. Byrne with the BLM says since the reservoir was created 50 years ago"

So we have an un-natural habitat, that was man created, that now needs our protection, from ourselves...

I am so tired of this crap!!!!

What really annoys me (and I know a little about the offending bureaucracy) is that all this does is push folks out somewhere else where it's harder to clean up.

I get that the mudbogging and stupid stuff is not something that many people want to tolerate, but it's a very convenient and safe place to shoot close to town, where at least everyone is facing the same direction and shooting into a big berm. The end result of closing that area to shooting is that other areas further out and harder to keep track of will get trashed. That annoys me.

If I were king, I'd gravel up the road in there so people can get to a decent compact place to shoot safely without constantly widening the muddy route in there, but nobody listens to me... even before I was married....

the last time i was out at blacks creek reservoir (about 3 years ago) we got hassled by the sheriff for shooting out there. we WERE trespassing but not intentionally, the signs had been torn down and shot up. there was trash everywhere and as the sheriff was talking to us some guys pulled in and were mud bogging, ripping up both the roads and the 'uncut' areas.

the place was a mess and the people that use(d) the area ARE the problem. I agree with moto "If I were king, I'd gravel up the road in there so people can get to a decent compact place to shoot safely without constantly widening the muddy route in there, but nobody listens to me... even before I was married.... I've bitched about the trash down there as much as anybody, because I used to shoot there for many years.  It was convenient and now it is closed and it pisses me off (plus the way they closed it is bogus).  One thing that always cracks me up are the complaints about the mud boggin.  It is the bottom of a reservoir fer chrissakes.

Quite honestly fellas... The way people dump trash and leave their shells... I'm not surprised.

So is anyone planning on going to the BLM hearing?

I've stopped shooting there, since I'd heard it was closed too.  I see nice "wildlife" signs around the reservoir that say no shooting, but am in doubt about their authority.  It is BLM land after all.

I agree with the comments about it being a reservoir bottom for the bogging.  Saw some guy pretty much up to his door handles out there one time.  :)

One thing I just thought of... If it's been there for 50 years, and people have been shooting there for a long time, it must not be disturbing the birds too much, or they wouldn't keep coming back.
