Topic: Illegal Concealed Carry Penalty??

Yesterday (Friday), I turned in my application for a concealed permit.  I was talking to a friend of mine who said he thought it was a waste of time and money - that he often concealed and that if he's caught, it's only a misdemeanor.  I knew it was a misdemeanor, but couldn't that still carry a hefty fine and possible jail time for him?  I'm not willing to risk it.

Anyway, is anyone know what the possible penalties are for carrying a concealed firearm without a permit?

I believe that the firearm will be confiscated too.  That alone makes the fine too expensive.  Plus it's stupid to break the law (even if you disagree with it) when you can be legal for just a few dollars and a little time filling out a form.

Was this not covered in the CCW class?

That's why I went the legal route - good to know the penalty - maybe if I mention that to him, he'll pull his head out.   

Besides - the gal at the Ada County permit desk was a hoot to talk with.  She had some interesting stories to tell.  I asked how many applications she gets in a day - she said she averaged 10-15 every day.  I was suprised with that number.  I'd be curious to know how many of those folks regularly carry once they have their permit.

Her desk is also where the folks convicted of sex crimes register.  As I was leaving, one real creepy guy came up to "renew" his annual registration requirement as a sex offender. -

As for misdemeanor/felony, it would seem crazy to intentionally carry concealed without a license simply because its not convenient to do the right thing. Getting your CCW in Idaho is easy, inexpensive, and you only have to renew like once every four years. I would probably question the REAL reason he cant get a permit. I dont like to spend time in jail for no reason, darnit, if Im in jail its because I need a hot meal and time away from the wife!!  ::)LOL

As to my friend, this was in the same conversation that he went off on the govt in general messing in people's lives.  Maybe he was just in a "mood" and wasn't serious.  I agree - easy to get, cheap, and who wants to take the chance in not doing it right.

I agree with Jeff's point about obeying the law. I'm positive that all of us can come up with particular laws we don't like, but these are the standards so we do live in anarchy or a dictatorship. If he's willing to violate the law about carring a firearm (that would not help this political and social movement) as "just a misdemeanor" for carrying a concealed weapon, what about other issues related to friends, family, and business?

get a piece of Paper, Draw a small Circle, and a Large Circle. Point to the Small circle and say "This is your ass with a CCW permit", then Point to the Larger circle and say 'This is your ass without a  CCW Permit" and end the convo with "Any Questions?"

I talked to my friend again about carrying without a permit and passed on the wisdom of the group.  He didn't argue with me as much, so maybe that's progress.  He can get a permit, just chooses not to... in other words he's a bonehead.
