Upcoming IDPA Matches for the Month of Feb
« on: February 02, 2012, 02:14:13 PM »
They say imitation is a form of flattery. I like Evans USPSA postings so here's the IDPA post.

2 matches this month, and most months for that matter.

Nampa Rod and Gun - 2nd Sat

Parma Rod and Gun - 4th Sat

The above matches will have set-up that starts around 0830, registration at 0930, and walk-thru at 1000 hrs.  As always, the more help we can get during set-up/tear-down the better.  125-150 rnds of ammo is usually sufficient.

See you at the Range

Well BK, if you're gonna cut and paste verbatim out of my thread (and I don't care if you do), I figure that gives me license to do a little advertising here  ;D!

To wit, the USPSA Practice Match that we hold at Nampa on the 1st Saturday of each month are very applicable to IDPA.  Although we're not necessarily designing the stages around IDPA specific CoFs, the basic skills that we're practicing can cross-dress both ways (shooting while moving, shooting for speed and accuracy, shooting around barricades, shooting from awkward positions...).

So if you shoot IDPA but haven't shot one of our Practice Matches, don't be afraid of the USPSA-part.  Both sports require shooting quickly and accurately (especially when steel is involved), and both have barricades/walls that you have to shoot around.

However, there are some notable differences:  In USPSA you can reload any damn time you want, and in whatever manner you want.  We use fault lines to force you to use cover instead of making it a subjective call by a SO if you've got all your little tootsies behind cover.  And you don't have to wear a non-competition-gear special vest that you only wear to IDPA matches (of course this time of year a concealment garment is needed for warmth...)

Other than that, USPSA and IDPA are 1st cousins.  Heck, if people want, I can design stages for the Practice Match to work on IDPA skill sets, but I draw the line on calling a stage where you single-handedly room-clear a stage with 9 bad guys in it and call it "defensive pistol shooting"...

An IDPA stage really ought to be: "From P1, shoot at T1 until gun is empty, then call 911 from cover" if you're patterning it off self-defense scenarios and real life encounters.  Underwear changing stage is optional.  Sorry for the thread drift.
Life is hard.  It's harder if you're stupid and can't shoot straight.

Hmm, so near as I can tell, this Saturday's IDPA match is the only pistol match this weekend, unless you're willing to drive all the way to LaGrande for their USPSA match.

Oh why not.  I'm in.  If somebody needs to borrow some gear (spare mag pouches for double stack magazines, a Glock holster, 1911 mags, 1911 mag pouches...), let me know.

Anything different about this match or is it the usual?

No Boys I'm not running this one. It's Len's baby with Richard Appleton doing some stages.

However, stand by for an announcement any day!!! Could be exciting.

Yes, The reed reactor, new drop turners, forward poppers.

All good IDPA stuff and you wil be seeing all that in the coming matches.

Thanks to none other than Evans.

We may need a little Evans Bobblehead to commerate the new items.

Reminder that tomorrow is the Nampa IDPA Match.

Setup at 8:30am, sign in about 9:30 and shooting by 10.

Should be a decent day, 40-50's partly cloudy with a chance of light showers in the monring, come prepared, it is Idaho.

$10 Match fee and $8 for NRGC members, bring 150 rounds and you should be good. I hear there are new props and Richard comes up with some great stages, so come on out and have some fun!

See you at the Range!

Thanks everybody for the fantastic turnout. Over 40 I beleive was the final count.

I apologize that a couple stages were a tad goofy. Totally my fault. I did not proof read the submitted stages carefully enough. Lesson learned.

Thanks for everybodys help in setup and teardown. You just don't know how that helps and makes things more fun for everybody.

Scores should be up tomorrow.

I'll post info on the IDPA New Shooter class when we get the details worked out. Probably wil happen next month if the weather is a little drier.

Thanks again. Great shooting with everybody. The people are def. the best part of the shooting sports.

IDPA is awesome! Had a great 1st time out there, i think i got the bug.  I'm going to try to make it to Parma as well this month.  It was great to meet a few of you, thanks Evan for letting me borrow the mag pouch, and nice to meet and talk to you Brian.  I am looking forward to this year of shooting...  I checked the results link: It shows me under SSP unclassified, #5 and 262.45 (53)  so my time was 262.45 seconds?  and what is the 53?

Hey Mike, glad you enjoyed yourself.  No worries on the mag pouch, happy to help.

262.45 is your cumulative time of all the stages and 53 is the number of points down you were for the match.  1 pt down is equal to 1/2 a sec, so your raw cumulative time was actually 235.95 secs, but you incurred 26.5 secs in points down.  The way IDPA scoring works, they take your raw stage time then add the time for your points down, plus any procedurals that you might have incurred.

Don't forget to give USPSA or Steel Challenge a try sometime.  Action shooting is essentially an addiction, so crack/meth... its all good.

Cheers

Good meeting you too Mike! Always good making new friends at the range!

Yeah, this sport can be addicting... wait till you try 3 gun.

The weather was great, could have used a bit more sun but all in all it was a good day to be out shooting the gun.

Next IDPA Match is on the Feb 25th! At the Parma Range.

We talked with the cook and he's going to start firing up the lunch grill on the 2nd and 4th Sat from now until October or so. So not only can you get in some great shooting, but you can head in to the club house and grab a burger and fries, drinks, cookies, and Gatorade.

See you all at the range!

Brian, I have already started my build plan for a 3-gun AR that I want to build, and have been drooling over Benelli's and FNH 3 gun shotguns! and i havent even shot a 3 gun yet...
