What's your favorite IWB Holster?
«
on:
January 30, 2012, 12:21:07 AM »
I just bought a Glock 19 as my new daily CC carry to replace a Ruger. Have always carried OWB but it is a hassle sometimes, especially in the summer. Time for an IWB so I have a choice.
What's your favorite and why?
Thanks,
Mike

For the last 20 years, shit I'm getting old
, my favorite IWB holster has been the Milt Sparks Summer Special or Summer Special 2
http://www.miltsparks.com/SS-2.htm.
I have wanted to try their Executives Companion
http://www.miltsparks.com/EX.htm
but like my current SS2, have owned it for a bout 10 years now, that I never worried about it. I think for a Glock you would propably like their Versa Max 2
http://www.miltsparks.com/VM-2.htm.
According to their Facebook page they have one in stock for a G17/22 that might work for you. I think their current wait time on and order is about 26 weeks.

I like the Milt Sparks Versamax II. I have two that are about 10yrs old and they still retain the weapon like they were new. I've worn them doing all types of physical activity and have not had an issue with the holster. I can remember being upside down on an amusment park ride and the gun remained in place. The gun rides tight and doesn't move around. The holster's mouth is reinforced making it easy to re-holster if needed.
I carry a full sized 1911 in mine quite comfortably. I have used them tucked and un-tucked in some very close contact personal spots where being discovered would have been an issue. They do a great job concealing a weapon.

Milt Sparks VMII for sure. I have two.
A good belt is also part of the equation. A crap belt can make a good holster feel uncomfortable.

Milt Sparks VMII and I can only echo the good the others have said.
Only down side is the wait, expect 20 to 26 weeks for your new holster.

I have been using the
CrossBreed SuperTuck
with my G19. I did some leather trimming to improve draw grip, but otherwise it's been a great holster.

without question VM II, Milt sparks, local co. but the best in the land, There are also some other that are just as good, UBG, ugly bald guy holsters and another upstart local company, Tuller Holsters, well made and good looking.
Everyone is built differently, those of you with no arse may not even like the IWB line, those of us that are WELL liked by our wives really like them, please make sure the holster covers the trigger guard of your shooter, just sayin.

I'm not as old as Evans.... My Milt Sparks Executive is only 15 years old.
There are other options now. But then there were not. Not to mention I'm lefty so galco didn't even have a solution for me.
As others have said, its one of the best. I love mine, and would recommend without hesitation.
If you wanted to order one, you could always pick up a crossbreed or something for now until the sparks is finished. Or even a pancake kydex that could go inside/outside with different loop attachments. That way you could use for IDPA or steel or whatever!

I've owned VMII's over the years, great holsters, but a hair pricey and the long wait is a major deal breaker for me.
As of the last year I've switched all of my IWB rigs to holsters from JM Custom Kydex out of Reno. Tony makes a top notch product, and his average turnaround time is only 2-3 weeks if that. I can honestly say his IWB rig is like a kydex VMII. It's solid, and very comfortable to carry all day, and retains the gun really well. Tony also makes OWB holsters, pistol and rifle mag pouches and a few other neat toys. I've sent a lot of friends his way, they've all been very happy with their holsters.

I've been using a Galco Kingtuck I bought from Cabelas. It's decent, I guess. I don't have a Crossbreed or Comptac to compare it to.

Really like the Crossbreed Supertuck. Have one for my .45's, Glock 17, Walther PPS and my Kahr PM9. You can wear these all day and not hurt!

IWB... the best of the best is a Milt Sparks VMII, just like everyone says.
Also... and holster is useless without a good belt to go with it... and I don't mean an expensive belt from a department store...

The only downside to any of the Milt Sparks products is the long wait (20-26 months last I heard). But order one now, they don't charge your credit card until they build it, and in you'll feel like its Christmas in June-ish. Buy a cheap holster to use in the meantime. Good things are worth waiting for.
And while you're waiting, might as well get a MS belt to go with it. After all, you'll have 5-6 months to save up for it.

I like the Milt Sparks Summer Special. I have carried a full frame Para .45 past "security" at the Idaho Center on multiple occasions. Brownell's currently has them in stock and on sale.

For belt's check out the Belt Man... I've had my 2 beltman belts for 5 years now, they are great.
http://thebeltman.net/
They look as good now as they did when I got them, and he delivers quickly. Takes about 4 weeks, 6 at most.

Been carrying inside the waistband for the better part of 20 years.
Normally a Summer Special old used thing I got for 15 bucks, and fit it to whatever pistol I fancied at the time.
Or a couple Kydex models over the years.
Just got my first Milt Sparks VM-II a few months ago.
Hands down the most comfortable holster I've ever used.
Fits well enough, I'm not sure why I waited so long to get one?

For what it's worth I like my MTC, made by Comp-Tac, leather backing with a kydex body, it's comfortable and you don't have to worry about reholstering into it since it won't collapse. It's easy to adjust the cant or how high/low it sits on your belt by messing with the clips. I like my Wilderness Instructor belt too, but a lot of people like the belt man ones. (I have a 38" 1.75" black instructor belt and a 34" 1.5 black instructor belt if anyone wants to relieve me of them).

Thanks for all the input. I bought a Galco at Cabela's just to get used to IWB for now and will be ordering either a crossbreed supertuck or Kholster Crescent Model very soon.
I'll see you in Nampa next weekend for IDPA so I can play with my new toy a bit......

I think you will enjoy the Galco. I wore it all day today. Takes some time to get used to in terms of drawing though, and re-holstering requires two hands plus visual verification of a clear trigger guard area but that is no different than any IWB you might buy.
