JP Silent Action Spring - MUST HAVE!
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:54:13 PM »
It's the little things in life that make you envious... and this is just one of those little things that I really want.

Now that I have a full length stock on my AR, I have come to realize just how much noise, vibration, and mechanical sound I hear and notice when I'm shooting. Nothing wrong with the gun mind you, just a not used to hearing things move like that. I hear it to a degree on my adjustable stock AR as well.

Then I see this beauty... I really want one, start saving the pennies, this thing is cool. :headbang:

You are correct it is a must have.

Ok I have to ask it.  Why is it a must have?  Does the bad guy or targets you are shooting at really care what your gun sounds like?

Yea.  Seems like a solution to a non-problem.

Hey, you are the one that posted this in ATT.  ;)  I wouldn't have commented if this were in the 3-gun board.

Tubbs makes a flat wire spring that is supposed to not sproing.  or there are those disks of plastic that fit on the other end of the spring to dampen it.  the carbine length hardly do it at all
I can't hear you over the sound of my own awesomeness.

The Tubbs spring is great, but doesn't completely eliminate the sound. Shooting indoors the noise disappears, but outdoors it sounds more like a zipper than a sproing. It's tolerable and cuts the "sproing" by 1/2.

The plus side is less bolt bounce and I'm not throwing brass 10 or 12 feet away.

An older solution is to coat the spring with bearing grease or a white lithium grease. That greatly reduces the noise and is pretty cheap. Don't use a lot, just get a good dab on your finger and "paint" the spring.

Rarely folks note short-cycling with this, likely because they packed the tube with lots of grease. Don't do that.

Sometimes just replacing the action spring helps. I like the Brownells' chrome-silicon spring and it seems quiet.

Save your $$$ and just get the suppressor. Now THAT makes a difference!

I'm going to disagree with that practice Hawkeye. That is not a place I want any level of excessive dirt and crud buildup.

I actually like the sproing noise teh springs make, lets me know everything is alright up front. Any idea if anyone makes noiseless springs for GLOCK?

That's a little thick for my taste. Mobile 1 synthetic is just right. If its good enough for bennie Cooley, Kyle lamb and the like, it's good enough for me.
