Boise gun show this weekend...
« on: January 14, 2012, 07:06:06 AM »
Can anyone tell me if this gun show is made up of local vendors or out of state ones?  Thanks

Usually a little of everything.  Local, in-state, out of state, collector stuff, garbage stuff, something for everybody.

There really aren't  enough private sellers. You see a lot of well used stuff going for retail or above.  ::)
If you get there early, 9am, and you know your prices, you can find some deals from private individuals.

But come on, $450 for an unconverted Saiga that goes for $300 shipped online? >:(

As always, Jeff's prices are very good. Even beating online prices. ;D

How was the show?  I was in the area, so decided to go.  About 12:30 the parking lot looked like the fair was going on, and there were at least 30 people in line at the door waiting to get in.  I decided to bag it as too big of a crowd makes it hard to get to the tables.  I may try tomorrow if the consensus is that it is a decent show.

It was busy in the lot because there was a fly fishing expo and the flea market going on also. I got there around 1:30 with 10+ people in line but once inside it thinned out. No real deals and a lot of really cheap quality tactical gear, holsters, etc. I picked up a couple P mags at Jeff's booth for a good price. Ruger had a big display set up. Typical show, if you miss it you would not be sorry.

I thought it was a pretty good show this time around - yah, there was some over priced stuff... but if you took your time, you could find some deals from private sale guys.  I picked up a used New Model Ruger Blackhawk for $100 less than I've seen them in either stores or places like ZIdaho.  Didn't seem to be as many ammo vendors this time around.  And the best part??  NOT being home doing chores!!

A bit too many "collectables" this time around. And which category did the bed-sheet sales come under??

One of the things I find interesting is how in one show you'll see multiples of something that hasn't been around much. This show it was Savage auto pistols ranging from 275 to 1300.

I did notice one private sale table that I though the asking prices were nearly retail. Maybe the guy likes to haggle.

I think the high point fo the was the SRM shotgun booth. A tad pricy at around $2,300 but interesting with the external rotary 4-tube magazine. In the full size version that give you 16 rounds of 12 ga. in a not-too bulky looking package (i.e. not extended magazine hanging down or drum).

The Ruger display was from the Ruger Collectors, not factory, so look but don't touch ...
All data is flawed, some just less so.

It always amazes me when somebody asks the same money for smokeless powder cans that look like they've been stored in someone's barn for the last 20 years as you would pay down at Sportsman's for fresh stuff.

The shotgun is interesting and Sam was very personable.

It was about the same as they always are, I went early today and the crowd was minimal.  Was really only there for two reasons to stop by Jeff's booth and pickup some PMags(still the best deal in town) and to finally meet and talk to Robert from RK Gunsmithing.  Was nice to chat with them both, and looking forward to having Robert do some work for me.

Was it a shotty with an X-Rail on it, or something new/different?

It was kinda like an xrail, but not something you can retro onto a different shotgun. Also, you had to manually rotate the tubes, unlike the xrail. It was almost kinda cool, but VERY expensive and really only a tacticool sorta thing. The only upside I see to it, is that they are made in Meridian, so it is good for the local economy. I don't see it being of any use in competition, that I am sure of. No chokes, short barrel and really slow to load.

I'm trying to think what it WOULD be good for besides showing it to your friends and showing it to people at a gun show..? :(

If 16 bad guys broke into your house, it might be nice, maybe. If it is just two bad guys and you need a shotgun with a 16 round capacity to deal with them, you might be better off putting in a safe room to hide in.

It is VERY VERY nose heavy, like the xrail. Switching between tubes is easy, I will give them that much, but it is still a manual process.
