Winter LRTR this Saturday 1-14-2012 @ Parma
« on: January 11, 2012, 05:42:58 AM »
from the desk of the MD:
Winter LRTR is this Saturday sign up is at 0830.
Let me know if you are coming. Please forward this  to anyone that might be interested.
Set up will start at 1PM on Friday. Please let me know if you can help set up. My erstwhile partner in crime is still laid up and is unable to do this kind of work yet.
Hope to set at least six stages and up to  eight stages.
If you have a ATV bring it as there  may be some running down range for some  re-set.
Lunch provided.
Let me know if you are going to make it.
Plan on 80 rounds or less. Bring your range finding, target locating skills, and shooting skills along with your data  book to gather some good cold weather real world data. This is a team event, spotter & shooter each taking turns in the role.

You know this sounds like a lot of fun. I have a 300 win mag that shoots tight groups but don't have a scope for that long range stuff. What scope do you guys mostly use? What is a typical stage like? Do you have to bring a partner or can you get one when you get there? Does each team use one rifle or each person their own?

I hadn't read that in a while... brings back some good memories.

Yeah, come on out and check it out. I love pistol shooting, 3 gun is a lot of fun, but I'll tell you what... long range shooting... this is where the real fun is.

I am going to wait on that until I have money for a proprer scope. Then I need some training on this mildot method of ranging and stuff. It looks like a lot to learn. I liked reading about the 2010 match. Looks like a lot of fun and quite challenging.

If you have ammo for your rifle I have several Mil/Mil FFP scopes you can borrow.
If it works out you can bring your rifle out to the shop and sight it in on my range and be ready to go Sat morning.

Don... the way I learned the Mildot system was to show up at an LRTR about 4 years ago... we/they are a very accommodating bunch.

They were so good at teaching me how to shoot, my first ever long range cold bore shot on a winter morning was at a 900yd target, that the 3 previous shooters had missed... and I hit it ;D They called me lucky and FNG and a lot of other nice names at the time, but in all honesty, while it was luck... they set me up to make the shot.

If you have time to take Jmack up on his offer, you'll be fine and have a blast!

you don't need a proper scope!
Alot of shooters got started with a duplex reticle in their scope and not a clue what a mildot was.
you shoot with a partner, in squads of 4 to 6 shooters
your squad will range it. etc.

Great day for long range today. It was great to put a face to Jmack, and I have to say, he can shoot. Very nicely done today.

Did a box test on our scopes as one of the stages, that was educational. Shot's ranged from 100y to just under 900yds today.

Scores are posted on the parma website, and in case your wondering, just look for the initional J and M in the list of names and you can figure out how Jmack did.  ;D

JMack, It was good to meet you and Tony.

Good work!

Same to you RG.

Thanks for the photos Brian.  Should have told me you had a camera and I would have taken some pictures of your best side too!   ;D ;)

It was fun seeing and shooting with everyone!  I had a good time and learned some more.
