I should do a full write up review of it now that I've had it a month, and shot it for a couple of matches.

Can't speak to the LaRue, other than if it's a LaRue... you probably can't go wrong... but I can speak to the Stag.

This gun is a shooter right out of the box, there is really nothing that "needs" to be done to it, other than mount and optic and you can go right out and shoot it with ease.

I like the 18" barrel for my needs, 3 gun competition, and the stainless, fluted and 1:8 twist was a the perfect fit, it comes with a decent comp on it, however, I will be changing it out for a PWS comp here soon.

The 15" Samson hand-guard is as comfortable a hand-guard that I've held, and I've tried a bunch of them. I like the length as it suits my hold, and it comes with a 3 rail attachments for mounting light or foregrip if you so choose, and for a 15" is quite light.

The barrel is freefloated as well and the upper, lower fit is good, the bolt carrier is Stag's and the charging handle, which I swaped out first thing, is the standard one, I threw on a badger latch for now but it will be wearing a TacLatch in the near future.

The stock comes in 2 flavors, a fixed tactical stock or the MagPul ACS, I actually really like the fixed tactical stock, comfortable and mounts easily. The ACS is nice as well, either is fine, for 3 gun the fixed stock works fine.

The trigger... IMHO this is where the stage 3G stands apart from other rifles in this class and price... it exceptional. It is the Geissle Super 3 Gun trigger, breaks at 3.25 lbs, and is what they call a hybrid 2 stage trigger... there is a small amount of take up then it's like it falls off a cliff and goes bang... there is no defined 1st stage to a 2nd stage break... it just rolls from the 1st thru the 2nd and goes off, very smooth, and easy to shoot, the reset is crisp and facilities easy followup shots.

I replaced the trigger guard and grip, which is a Magpul MOE, with a MagPul MOE+ which has the rubberized grip and a MagPul trigger guard as well... when I felt the + grip I just had to have it... great little grip.

The other gun to consider is the DPMS 3 gun rifle, which is very similar to the Stag 3G, but sports a VTAC handguard and a JP trigger, which are also great triggers. The DPMS can be had for a little cheaper.

I hear that Stag's 3G is quite popular and they can be hard to find right now, but worth it, IMHO.

Check with Sawtac about the LaRue and the Stag, I know he can get LaRue, and I think he can the Stag as well.

Wow, I have come to the right place. Thanks for alll the info. I am admitted newbie to AR15s.  I really like the thought of buying a firearm you don't have to mess with to much.  I figure I will spend least that much building one to suit my preference.  But I wouldn't know what to get in the first place. W I purchased the Dueck iron sight to have a easy transition to iron sights if needed.  That is a great right up. thanks . hopefully I can make an informed decision.

I won one of these and gave it to my wife.  I'd be happy to let you check it out if you'd like.  Haven't even had a chance to get it sighted in yet so it will be just like the one you'd get from them.

I just got my 3G in and am waiting for the rain to subside, even if it does not I am taking it out this weekend. I love the feel of samson hand guard, it is just plain comfortable. I also put the Dueck RTS sights on and will see how they work out. If you are around this weekend you are welcome to come try mine, not sighted in yet, but that will be the objective for this weekend.

I'm speculating here but it seems like up until the recent increased interest in 3-gun shooting, it was cheaper to assemble a rifle from parts than it was to buy a complete rifle then start changing out parts to make it suitable for 3-gun.  It was possible to buy a 3-gun purpose-built rifle from certain manufacturers, but those were fairly pricey and at a quality level that most weekend shooters probably didn't need.

But thanks in part to 3-Gun Nation and support from DPMS, Stag and a bunch of other gun makers, we now have affordable ARs and accessories that are well suited to 3-gun competition.  Hell, FNH and even Benelli have really jumped on that bandwagon and are starting to offer 3-gun specific firearms.  Having handled BK's STAG the other day, I'd have to agree that whatever mods you do to it afterwards are more based on personal tastes than to improve upon the rifle's function.  

All that said, I still think its rewarding to build an AR from parts, and what a great way to learn how the gun works and what goes into it.  If you shop around, I'm sure its possible to buy quality parts and build one for equal or less price.  Plus think of the fun and learning that comes from doing it yourself.  

Steve, if you want to go this route, we're here for you bud, though be warned: there are a ton of options out there and many many differing opinions on what makes a good 3-gun rifle.  Plus it seems like every month somebody finds a new part or accessory that blows away what used to be in vogue because its lighter, cheaper, or faster...  Good thing ARs are modular!

I think the PWS Wraith is something you should look at. Not terribly more expensive and looks to be a really good 3 gun rifle. It is the only option that falls right between the lower cost DPMS or Stag and the expensive JP rifles.
