Something that may be handy, a sewing awl for basic repairs to heavy material
leather tents etc.
Works with dental floss which is stronger than the basic cotton thread that comes
with some sewing awls you buy......

Go to a military surplus store and ask for the Military Tent Repair Kit. It has a great Awl and awsom thread in it. The thread is waxed so the stitches don't slip.
What dental floss have you had good luck with? I have tried two brands. Both were so slippery that the stitches did not hold.

The Speedy Stitcher is about as good as it gets. I've been using the same one for 30 years and other than replacing the thread, it's as good as new.
