I've had great luck with Krieger barrels!

Try Brunos if Krieger is out of stock.

If you get in a bind I think I have a couple of 20" barrels here.

Thanks for the info.

Doing more research, an 8 twist barrel is what I need.
(I want to be able to shoot the 77gr. SMK)

So new question,

Anyone shot 55 grain bullets in an 8 twist barrel?

How did they shoot?

My box of 77Gr SMK's says 7" 8" twist barrel only so I think you'll be ok with with those in your 1-8" twist.

I think I have a 1-8" twist 20" Lothar Walther barrel you are welcome to try if you want to shoot some 55Gr bullets before you buy.

1:8 twist barrels are used a lot for 3-gun shooting and the 55 gr FMJ bullet is the bread and butter round.  The 55 gr bullets I use shoot really good from a 1:8 twist barrel out to 100 yds, but I mainly use them for 100 or less.  Easily capable of MOA accuracy.  I typically use 69 gr bullets for shots beyond 100 yds, but the 55 gr bullets will work in a pinch out to 200-300 ish if you know your holds and there is not much wind.

My 18" 1:8 barrel shoots my 55gr into 1.5" at 100yards... now, these are my, I've done nothing but make sure the bullet fits in the mag, feeds in the gun, goes bang 100% of the time load... I have not tweaked or worked with this load at all to try and get any accuracy beyond knowing that they work.

And these are whatever 55gr, FMJBT bullets I can find load as well... pulled, new, used, cheap, whatever bullets... I'm currently getting some heavier bullets to work up longer range loads that have better accuracy out to 500yds.

Might want to consider Rock River Arms for a barrel.  They typically stock a Wilson 1:8 air gauged stainless that is .750" in front of  the gas block and slightly larger to the rear.  Wilson makes barrels for a bunch of companies and are great quality.  with 62, 69 or 77 grainers, if I do my part, they will shoot sub-minute.

1:8 is a great compromise for most bullet weights.

Sorry I linked the wrong page.

This is the page for in-stock barrels.

Krieger dose a 7.7 twist that would shoot the 77GR SMK's lights out

Not quite an AR but I have a Remington 700 with a Schneider 1 in 8 twist polygonal barrel that shoots lights out with 52 to 77gr projectiles.

Gary made the barrels for the Marines M40A3 so he might know a thing or two about barrels :)

I've had great luck with 77smk out of my BCM ss410 1x8 18" barrel. It shoots only average of 3/4moa, however it maintains 3/4moa out to 500yards. My standard load for the barrel is 69smks.

Hey manonfire, what is your 69gr load? I have that same barrel but have not built the upper yet. I'm still waiting on the gas block.

i shoot alot of the 75gr amax they are pretty accurate. BUT they can not be loaded to mag length without some serious problems, notably that you will have a very compressed load with almost any charge and the ogive will be inside the case neck. I seat the bullets to the lands and single feed and the work great. the hornady 75gr bthp match are pretty good too and can be seated to mag length.
