Nampa Gun Show this weekend
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:44:07 PM »
Anyone going?  I've never been out to the show in Nampa... looking to kick some tires, but always open to a good deal.  Worth the drive from Boise or just wait a week and go to the one at the fair grounds??  Are there typically a good number of vendors?  What do you think?

FWIW, I've got tables for Boise.  Not going to Nampa.  ;)
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

Nampa is a fun show, I haven't been a year or so, but you get to know everyone there and there are some deals to be had.

I like going because I know they guys there, and there's not so many trinket and jerky sales people.  ;D

You see many of the folks at the Nampa shows in Boise as well. If you're looking for something specific I'm not sure I'd say it was the best idea to go to Nampa. If you're open to something you hadn't planned on you never know what "Grampa Bob" (NOT a real person) is going to dig out of the attic or basement and display.

The display area can get very crowded.
All data is flawed, some just less so.

Plenty of free garage sales on the weekend. Don't need to pay to get into one.
I'll wait for the Boise GUN show.

Alright, I'll just come out and say it. We need to support the local stores and gun clubs.

We all preach about buying local, blah, blah, blah... the Boise Gun show is a good show, but it is not local, yes there are local dealers, and they make some money, but the bulk of the profits from the gun show (admission price, food sales, vendor table costs) are made by people from out of this area.

Why not support the local community and keep the money local. It supports a local club, raise some money for them in their building (they don't have to pay Expo Idaho for the ability to use the facility) they make money selling their own food, and they make money from people coming in the door. In short the NRGC benefits hugely from you going to their show.

If more of us went, there would be more vendors, because vendors go where the people are. And I will be the first to admit that I don't always do this. I made the assumption that I couldn't get a gun from a local dealer without even asking, and I should have because he could have.

In short, if we don't goto the small local gun shows, we are contributing to putting them out of business, then we bitch about them raising rates for membership, or costing to much to shoot at their range, or how we wish they had better facilities... It doesn't happen without money and if we don't go to the show, then it's our fault.

I enjoy hanging around gun folks that are like minded, so take and hour, go over to the show, have a bite to eat, enjoy the company. If you find a good buy, all the better.

I will say this, if it wasn't for the Nampa Rod and Gun club gun show, and the participation of Mike Gibson of MGM at that show 10-15 years ago, I would not be the shooter I am today, because a local company took the time to talk to me and invite me to come out and shoot a local match, and that was the beginning of my sheepdog era... and it's still going strong.

Ok, done with my soapbox, I'm just saying, think about supporting the local events more, especially the smaller shows and the gun clubs.

Guys this gun show is what keeps us in business it is a fundraiser of sorts. Tell me what garage sales you go to where you get a chance to win a 22 rifle???? Can you get a great Breakfast or Lunch at a garage sale.
The Kitchen has got a new cook Mario and he just loves people and cooking for them so come hungry and leave happy. We do have our Kitchen inspected so you will not get poisoned. The Jr shooters also use this as a time to raise money for ammo they use during the year, they either sell shirts or deliver meals and drinks to the vendors and help with clean up.

Is it the biggest or best show in town no not really, is Jeff down there with all his cool stuff no. But I am there if that helps any.

Maybe I missed it but for those of us that are fairly new to all this, when and where is this proverbial gun show?  and what is the cost to get in?
lets meet face to face sometime.

I didn't mean to offend anyone junkie.
If it is mainly a fund raiser for the club, then I can see no problem.

The time I went there, I was under the ( false) assumption it was mainly a gun show; and was disappointed to see over 40% of the stalls selling homemade crafts and garage sale junk. >:(

But, when one considers the raffle, the food and that it is a fund raiser, it makes sense.

No hard feelings? ;D

No hard feelings at all. I just felt the need to point out the benefits of supporting the locals!

I can see your point just wanted to clear the air as to the real function of the show. I am in no way offended at all. I too am disappointed at the content at times. I do however think that anyone who passes up on the Jam ladies Jams is a fool that stuff is good. I traded her elderberries for Jam 2 years in a row now man that stuff is good

I agree with BK, we need to support the local clubs. I plan on going to the show, and will probably also go to the Boise show. This is one way for a local club to keep their dues low and to be able to operate.

Here's the fun way to attend the Nampa Rod and Gun Club Gun Show.

Head out to the range Sat morning, shoo the Fun/Steel/Technique/whatever it is we are shooting in the morning at the outdoor range. Then after it's done, head for the indoor range in town, grab some lunch and wander the tables and see if anything grabs your fancy. Then head home knowing not only did you get some good shooting in for the day but you got to see and fondle some gun stuff and get a good lunch.

Hard to beat!  ;D

That would be "Practice Match"      P_R_A_C_T_I_C_E  M_A_T_C_H        Practice Match

Intent is to practice by shooting multiple strings of the same stage to figure out which is the better/quick/opposite of wrong way to shoot it, and work on some footwork skills that each stage is designed to focus on.

Life is hard.  It's harder if you're stupid and can't shoot straight.
