CNN - Gun Sales At Record Levels
« on: December 28, 2011, 01:52:17 AM »
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/12/27/us/record-gun-sales/?hpt=us_c1

I just wanted to say, keep up the good work.  ;D

Despite some nice quotes from the NRA included in the article, it appears the article added in the anti-RKBA sources as well to help appease or scare the simple-minded liberal sheeple.  However, to me, this is my New Years Resolution.  I think another gun in the safe would be a great way to start the New Year..   The more Americans who own guns, the less bureaucratic scum who can take them from us..  Anyway, I just love reading articles like these from the major news sources.

Of course, to be impartial (yeah right), they had to include a quote from the Brady Bunch:
Quote
"The research we've seen indicates fewer and fewer people are owning more and more guns," said Caroline Brewer of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "All the trends indicate the number of Americans who own guns has declined."

BULLSH*T!!  More Americans than ever before own guns.. Can the Brady Buttholes please share any of their sources to backup their fallacious lies!

And if this isn't good enough proof, then the Brady's have had their head up their arse too many years:
Quote
Two days before Christmas, NICS ran 102,222 background checks, which was the second-busiest day in history. The one-day record was set this year on Black Friday, the big shopping day following Thanksgiving, with 129,166 searches. By comparison, the previous one-day high was set November 28, 2008, when gun dealers made slightly less than 98,000 requests for background searches.

And really, how can there be a record sales in guns more than ever before in the history of the country, yet somehow there is less gun owners than ever before??? Seriously, so stupid!

Hope everyone enjoyed their new guns acquired over the holidays.. Cheers  :sniper2:

A good news reporter will always present both sides, and present it in such a way that the viewer is left to decide which is right/wrong or good/evil... very little of that goes on today. I thought the report was good.

However, they did miss one point, not all gun sales are done through the NICS systems, and not just FTF sales... any time I buy a gun, it doesn't go thru the NICS system because I have a CCW and it's already pre-approved. I believe that is correct, Jeff or others? Once a CCW fills out a Form 4 there is no NICS check right?

That being the case, there are a lot more guns that even they think based on that.

The moral of the story... people are buying guns and ammo, and not just for hunting. That's a good thing.

You beat me to it. ;D  The numbers reported from NICS would be just buyers who don't  have a CCW and who purchased it from a business.  That would not account for FTF or CCW holders that don't have to be called in.  That being said, I suppose they have to use data from somewhere to support the hypothesis (another sign of a good reporter?).  If the NICS checks are higher, you can make the assumption that other sales are up as well.   :headbang:

There is good news in the article for sure.

BK,
You are correct, the reporter did a good job presenting the information. The second through the fifth paragraphs told us something. The rest was pure assumption by two biased parties.

True.  Anyone buying a gun with a same state CCW doesn't need a NICS call.  Out of state CCW and a NICS call is made.

If the Brady group is relying on data from "all the trends," they missed this one:

John Lott has done "the" Definitive Work on the subject and his Statistical Analysis and rigorous study in his book, "More Guns, Less Crime" is the Standard and should be thrown up to any Gun-hating Liberal who tries to obfuscate the Data that clearly speaks to the contrary.

Lott's work shows, empirically, that there is a Correlation and Cause/Effect relationship between Legal Gun Ownership and Lower Crime.

Here is a link to Lott's site:

I'm sure he's on your radar (and on the radar of many others)...just wanted to revisit John Lott's work in light of the CNN article.

Yes, the Brady quote is pure spin and part of their Narrative and Agenda. Gallup and many other credible sources (as cited above) tell a different story about the rise in numbers of unique individuals owning guns.

Yes, and the Brady Bunch also likes to keep this Inconvenient Truth from the sheeple:

Violent Crime is in a downward trend...has been for some time. Legal Gun Ownership is on the rise, has been for some time. Even Barack Obama can connect those dots...I think  ;D

I actually met Lott at UofI, interesting to say the least.

And I had to have been responsible for at least 500 of those NICS calls on Black Friday.  ;D

I've been saying for some time that liberals can't (or just plain refuse) to understand math. So of course if they connect the dots the image they get will look like a big fluffy bunny or possibly a jack-booted thug. Never can tell which way they're going to jump.
All data is flawed, some just less so.

It's because libtards are feel no emotional pull to numbers and facts.

Cold hard numbers don't make them goto bed at night feeling all warm and fuzzy about making things better. There is still a child starving (because of bad parenting) there's still homeless people (because of bad decisions) there are still dead children (because of some drunk) and there is violence (because there are bad people in the world)

(NOTE: This is not an all inclusive list, just a random string of words)

It's sad for sure, but we need to stop focusing on fixing the results of these issues, and work on the cause of the issues.

It is my general impression that most violent crime happens is cities that are predominantly lib.
It is also my understanding that most of the "first time gun owner" guns are being sold in areas that are predominantly independent.  These are the sales that seem to be the most dramatically on the increase.

I am not sure that one has anything to do with the other.

One could also make the argument that violent crime has dropped off in direct correlation the the decline in the sales of the movie "colors".

I just think there is more to this than we are discussing so far.

I am not a lib (just thought I should say it before the comments start)
lets meet face to face sometime.
