question about selling acrost state line
« on: December 20, 2011, 02:09:15 AM »
I wanna sell my xd to either someone on these forums or to a friend or family member.

If i am interpreting things properly me and the buyer can go to a ffl dealer in idaho, i then hand the gun to the dealer. the buyer then fills out the standard atf paperwork. dealer gives the buyer the gun and everything is legal? or am i missing something. i would rather do everything as exact as possible to cma as well as the buyers.

If you and the other person have states of different residences, you cannot transfer directly to them.  An FFL in Idaho cannot transfer a pistol to an out of state resident, long arms are fine.  You can ship it to the FFL of their choice however.

Emathey is ON IT!
Handguns HAVE to be transferred from dealer to dealer if it goes out of state, in idaho, you can do whatever you want, we have talked about this here, get at least a cwp, dl, receipt, etc if you do sell to someone you don't know.  No handguns to PR Calif, DC, NYC, etc. most dealers across the country are pretty good to deal with, we have ffl's from dozens of dealers across the US, if you wish some help.

does the money have to go through the ffl? by that i mean do you have to 'sell' it to the ffl.

No.  But they will charge a fee.
