870 Express with Tacstar
« on: November 29, 2011, 11:05:42 AM »
I've got an 870 Magnum Express circa 1990. I recently attached a 6-slot Tacstar side saddle and now the action doesn't fully cycle. Does anyone happen to know how much I have to remove from the back of the forend so that I can cycle the action again?
Thanks

if it were me, I would think about modding the accessory before the firearm,
or stop in at RK's and have pops or pete take a look at it for ya.
They call me "Double J"

I don't have mine handy but...

Prior to putting the side saddle on, I opened the action, held the saddle alongside the receiver for a measurement, marked the forend, took the forend off the gun and made the cuts.

Real easy. No regrets here, Rem parts are cheap and available.

I can measure for you this evening if you like.

Not necessary, thanks. You gave me a good idea. I think if I mark the receiver at the leading edge of the side saddle with a sharpy or something I can figure out how much to take off. Thanks again.

Mine is the 3" chambered 870.

The cut on mine is 1 11/16" which provides 1/4" clearance between the fore end and side saddle when the action is open.

Got mine cut down tonight. Forend just about kisses the side saddle with the action fully open. Looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. Once I get some stain on the cut it will look like factory.

If you ever decide to change out the stocks get a "Hogue Tamer" stock set for it.  You won't have to cut the forearm at all.  I have all 4 of my 870's set up with Hogue pistol grips and forearms with side saddles.
