This poll assumes reasonable range fees in a location convenient to Boise residents

"Boise Shooters > Old Shit > Support Boise Shooters Auctions".
This seems like a strange place to put a poll about a shooting range.

I would change my vote from "This survey is a waste of time to F*ck Yea" if you let us shoot Tanerite with our Fifties in your indoor range.

That would send people running for sure. :)

The only time an indoor range appeals to me is in the winter when range and weather conditions suck.

However, unless the range had some sort of organized events: Practical Rifle, .22 shoots, USPSA or IDPA, etc...

The range would be one of the last places I would go. I don't like smoke that hangs in the air, I don't like guys with 44 mags or large caliber rifles pounding away next to me, let alone a 50, indoors... I don't like hot brass bouncing back into me from the wall, I don't like not being able to draw the gun from a holster (most indoor ranges restrict that) I don't like having to shoot specific ammo (Some indoor ranges don't allow reloads or lead bullets)

In short, indoor ranges tend to be rather confining... Take the Nampa indoor range, I like shooting my .22 rifle there in the winter for organized events... but it's also open to other guys that bring larger caliber guns, when they shoot, it's just unpleasant to be on the line. Even a .45 when you have a bunch of .22's going off is ugly.

That's just me, mind you, I like the open outdoor ranges.

I for one would like a 100 yd indoor range.
Most of my shooting is done on a weekly basis, and rarely lasts longer than 10 to 30 mins.
So the longer range stuff I have to do, I save it for a day I can drive 45 mins to spend less than 30mins on an outdoor range.
The short range stuff, I can stop at Impact on the way home.

Yes, the big bore stuff is very unpleasant indoors. Even separated by a wall, the big bores are unpleasant.
There's no way around that, other than stepping off the range till the guy gets done launching Dollar bills down range.

The other issue is the Guys that think the Armor is rated for everything. IE AP rounds are not armor friendly, and that will close down your range fast.
Just this weekend @ Impact, a customer looked at me like I was speaking Chinese when I told him he couldn't shoot Green Tip.
He got a smirk on his face, so he knew that it wasn't allowed - but was going to try anyway.
Customers don't care, it's not their Armor. And if they can get away with it, they will try every time.

Just my .02

I would NOT be interested in an indoor range that allows .50 BMG or black powder guns..
But a smaller caliber, smokeless powder only range would be cool for those winter months.

I was with feli_mo when he posted the poll from his iPhone. That might explain why the poll was posted in the wrong section. I'll have him stop in and introduce himself, but he keeps pretty busy and doesn't have internet at home.

As for the questions:

The 50 bmg remark was to keep people from asking if they could shoot their M203 indoors.

With winter settling in, trips to the desert are less appealing to me. An indoor range for sighting-in would be a nice option... especially if it's close.

Thanks for keeping the survey up!

Is this a real range proposal with a real budget?
Have either one of you researched an indoor range bullet trap capable of stopping a fifty round at 100 yards? I'm sure it's possible but it sounds expensive for a local range set up to sight in your rifle.
Why did you start a poll that only let me vote "This survey is a waste of time" once?

Yea, this^^^^^^.  I've got a rough idea on the costs as we've done about six of them in the last three months and they aren't cheap. Just sayin'

I'll tell feli_mo to respond. Wish I could give you more, but I was brought in on the tail end of the conversation. It seemed like a serious conversation though.

For all intents and purposes:

Yes... funded with a budget, and location in mind. Otherwise the results will be skewed and we won't get reliable responses. Again... it's not my project but I would go in the winter. I think .308 would be my upper limit as the sound may be too much to handle. There would have to be more than just the 100 yard range to keep me coming...  Auto-weapon rental like the gun store in Vegas. Maybe an archery range, interactive targets.

Let's dream big... if you build it, they will come.

No...hate indoor ranges.  Why be inside when we have this gorgeous state that lets us shoot outside in some nice locations?  Blacks Creek, Parma, Norris Range, BLM property, and other locals.   Just me but I have given away everyone of my free passes to Impacts range...nothing personal impact just like shooting outdoors.  Now if they have an indoor/stocked whistle pig range...thats a different story. ;D

Voted no...

I find it too easy just to swing out & shoot on BLM land.  I don't mind cold & I'm cheap.  I don't like range fees.
