Dillon powder funnel/expander question
« on: November 11, 2011, 06:45:39 PM »
Finally getting around to setting up my press.  Got the de-capper/sizing die in with no problem.  However, when using the powder funnel, I am having issues.  The brass sticks to the die so that when I am lowering the ram, it hangs up, and takes a little force to pull the brass off of the die.  In all of the videos that I have watched with the press in operation, it doesn't look like there is any force required to lower the ram.  I have buffed the die, put lube on the die, put lube on the brass, and I am still having the problem.  Not sure what else to try.  Is that just the way that it works?  I think that I am putting the right amount of bell in the brass.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Is it normal to have resistance when lowering the ram?

what caliber?
how old/new is the brass?
is the bell just enough to set a bullet in?

sometimes older brass can be a little stbborn. I use some one shot in a ziplock bag and spray about 1 second then shake about 100 rounds in the bag for 9mm pistol if I have a batch of unknown range brass.

It is 9mm, once fired brass with various headstamps.  I will give the one shot a try.  I just wasn't sure if it was normal or not.

I buffed my powder funnel to a nice shine...but it still has resistence on the downstroke... I've only loaded 10k-20k rounds or so on it, so to me I just call it normal.  ;D

the stuff that reqired lube was stiff enough that it would pop the lid off the powder dump...
Nelio can explain better I'm sure...

If it's just a little hesitation and just doesn't free fall then, yeah. normal.
