Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3
« on: November 06, 2011, 11:06:57 AM »
I don't know how many of you play video games, but if you do and you play FPS war games. I've been a fan of Call of Duty games through MW and Black ops, but the graphics for BF3 blow me away. I really enjoy the single player aspect, but thats usually over pretty fast so it's up to multiplayer to keep the game going after a few days. I've never liked the BF multiplayer because the maps are so big that you have to use vehicles to get across it, so it turns into a waiting in line at the spawn point for a vehicle and when you get one you have to learn how do operate it on the fly and hope you aren't blown up too fast. On top of that the visualization is different then most FPSs they don't make the enemy stand out of the background so it is really hard to spot other players, so they added a spot feature where (on the xbox) you press the back button when you see an enemy and it puts a red dot over their head for about 30 seconds so you can track them. I really don't like this play style because I find myself constantly pressing back until I see a red dot appear then I shoot at it. I haven't played either at this point but I worry about the story line being a bust for BF. With MW I love the multiplayer. They have a a kill streak reward system where the more kills you get without dieing the more goodies you get. Now what they have done in this one is added the ability to choose from 3 different trees of kill streak rewards. You can choose from assault, support and specialist. It sounds like assault will have mostly air support, support will have things that help with objectives like bullet proof vests, and the third tree is completely different. With specialist you dont get and drops or air support, what you get insted is a perk for every kill, so by kill 12 or so you will have every perk in the game. Something else new is that its not only kills that give you rewards now so If you playing objective games like domination or search and destroy you will get points for these as well. I will probably end up playing both, I like MW more but the graphics are almost real in BF.

I loathe mw series, bf is a team objective mission, you dont have campers waiting in corners to get a kill with dual shotguns. kill death ratio doesnt matter its all about communicating with your squud and all 4 of you attacking a point at once to capture the objective if you want to go rambo solo then go with mw3, do that in bf3 and you will get owned. bf3 is built solely for mp so the campaign is not that great. I hate kill streak incentives as well so theres my opinion.

for all of it's problems MW2 was a lot of fun, and I spent plenty of hours playing it.  When BLOPS came out I was excited, but that game was a resource hog - and I went back to MW2.  I played some BF:BC2 in between, and it's good but I never liked the arcadiness of it.

Arma (especially with ACE) was the a lot of fun.  Arma2 ran poorly - not just on my dinosaur of a machine, but more importantly on my friends super-computer.

I done with MW, BF and Arma - I'm playing League of Legends, and that's holding my interest.

You guys should really give IDPA or USPSA a try for first shooter games, they are intense! They are relatively quick and don't require a ton of resources, however the higher you get in the game, you find that you do need more resources.

The best is the MGM3G stuff that is out, talk about a needing resource, the mother of them all is the IRONMAN version of the MGM3G, that is the most intense resource hog of all of them, you will load up on equipment, and just when you think you have enough, BAM, a new version comes out and you end up getting owned. Luckily a lot of the players have extra gear laying around, and will loan it to you for a short time. It's pretty cool.

The best part of these games is the controller. They are so realistic you would think you were actually the person doing the shooting, the graphics are intense, and I haven't really seen a video card that can do these things justice, I just don't think they've been built yet.

One draw back is you don't have control of the volume, but you get over it. The guys shouting at you all that time kinda get drowned out when you start pulling the trigger and running.

For now I am liking the new BF3. I play solo half the time as an engineer, and sneak back to the enemies home base roads and drop tons of mines, so they can never reach conquest points with tanks IFV's Jeeps. etc. good way to rack up 4-7k inpoints and bonuses per game. I miss the old original battlefield where you can put C4 on the Helos, and wait for the enemy to fill it up, and then Boom! LULZ for days.  or going back to steal the enemies Helos and pwnd the opposing teams spawn points

if you want to rack up a ton of kills, get any rifle with the IRx1 (infrared) Scope (around level 20-21) it makes finding and acquiring the targets super fast vs normal scopes. the IR scope is good for spotting and marking enemies from a far for other team mates to kill.

Takes a while to get use to flying the jets and helos. and are pretty useless, unless you just wanna do dog fights.

once ya level up, and know the maps, it's easy to have fun fucking with the enemy.

3 in the morning, not a problem. :-)

You could spawn on squad mates, but I'll guarantee you'll only do that once.  :o

Like I said, the more you play the more resources you need, so if you want to drive tanks and fly jets and choppers you're more than welcome to, but your teammates and the other guy's playing will all want a turn at it as well. So bring enough ammo and fuel for everyone to play.   Nobody likes a resource hog :P

We've had guys show up with Ma Deuce's, that was a hoot, MP5's and the SAW M2???, full auto at that, and those were pretty cool to shoot, I've had the Barrett 50 cal in my hands and shot it as well (Thanks to FastFire!!) I've even shot suppressed MP5's (Thanks Joey) the possibilities are endless.  ;D

I like our maps too, although you have to draw them yourselves at most of the time, as the provided ones, if they are provided at all, are not that detailed and can often lead you astray.

Man I'm getting the itch to go out and play now that we are talking about it.  ;D

I was looking forward Patrol Shooter Fall 2k11, but it was cancelled like, 48hrs before it's release date.  The system requirements might have scared some people off, and being a closed beta it had a pretty narrow audience.  I had my gaming system all setup for it.

I'm with ya, by biggest problem with the PSF2K11 was the release date for this year, I just couldn't get the time off of work to stand in line for the opening. I like to get there a day early and setup camp, get to know the neighbors and see if I can get my hands on the maps before it goes public, but my work schedule had me out of town and I just couldn't pull it off.

I was bummed... but not to worry, I think the LRTR 2012 is going to be a good one, I just need to do some system updates and I'll be ready, the core is good, but I need some more peripherals stored up.

Ok so far I freakin hate it. The game is full of camping quick scopers, who use sniper rifles like assault or shot guns. Running by and killing me in one without even getting a look at me. Wow I can't believe they let that crap in this game. Man am I glad I just rented it rather then bought it.

Ya but I've been playing black ops for so long that I figured they fixed the quick scoping so just maybe because mw3 is the next game in the series that they would continue that. but no. Infinity Ward you fail me.

Ya know, I hear and read a lot about these Quick scopers, but I have yet to run into any of them on any game. maybe its because I am always moving and killing the enemy? perhaps you should try moving so you won't be an easy target. Just saying....

Huge Battlefield nut here...and love Battlefield 3!  Preordered and played it till I puked and loved it.  Love the Call of duty campaigns but hate the multi player....I am old and cant keep up with these young kids so BF 3 lets me snipe all day long.

Wait till you find a good Heli Pilot. I'm leveled up to 30 now, and this is where you find all the good jet and heli pilots kicking ass. was playing this morning and a Heli pilot i was trying to bring down with the stingers kept sniping my ass with freaking rockets. Gah!

Quick sniping is a trick...walk up to a blank or dark wall in the game and in the middle of your cross hair is a little white pixel dot, put a piece of tape or sticky note over that point and wham...you know where your center of aim is at all times, even with the sniper rifle for in close fighting.

Me, if I am not sniping I love playing the assualt character (200 points per revive and 20 points for each time someone uses your health packs) loaded up with the DOA 12 gauge gun, extended mag, eotech sight, laser range finder, and the frag shells.  When your team mates get pinned down in a tight corridor that gun is awesome for opening up the area and the frag explosions act like a small flashbang and sort of blind your opponents...then top it off with the 1911 tactical and flashlight.  Switching from your main gun to a flash light gun is CRITICAL skill in close...flashlight blinds the hell out of your opponent and you can get away quickly or get the quick kill.

I play WWWAAAYYY to much Battlefield 3 dont I? ;)
