Blacks Creek Rd accident
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:53:18 PM »
Lot of you probably caught this on the news.  Truck went off the road from the high plateau into Arrowrock.  I got there in time to watch the National Guard pick the guys off the side of the mountain.  I can't say enough about that - definitely showed some flying skill.  I don't know how those guys got out of the truck - whether they jumped or were ejected.  I would guess that if they had stayed in the truck, there is no way they would have survived - it was completely demolished.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but be careful out there.  Excess speed or a moment's inattention can be disastrous.

On a side note, I came out on the Middle Fork road.  Is it even possible for that road to be any worse?  Dang, I don't have any fillings left.  It probably keeps the lightweights out but an occasional grading would be nice.  It's amazing how good the Blacks Creek and Long Gulch roads are, and then you hit the Middle Fork.  :o

I have found that the trick is, to find the right speed at which you don't spill your beer. j/k ;D  I do try to find a speed at which I am not beat to death, and am not driving too fast to miss a corner.

Ain't that the truth.  I was up at Arrowrock over the weekend and the end of pavement sneaked up on me.  Hit it doing 35 and scared the crap outta me.  The washboard bounced my truck around so much I had to be in 4wd under 15mph or the rear end would start to swing out.  Suuuuucked.

Try Rocky Canyon RD sometime.....

parts of that road look like they get graded maybe once every 3-5 years....Washouts, Washboard, and Potholes like no ones business....

Amen to that. But, it is a nice quick way into town from Robie Creek.

There is a method to their madness.  Been like that for 35 years, that I know of.

We drove by a couple days later heading home from elk hunting.  They had a rig there running cable down to haul out what was left of the truck.  It was pretty much unrecognizable.  According the guys hauling out debris, it was a couple pulling a horse trailer.  The trailer went off the road and pulled the truck with it.  Fortunately for the horses, the trailer only went onto it's side just short of the edge and stopped.  The horses were okay, but I doubt they'll willingly set foot in a trailer again.  As for the truck, it detached from the trailer and went over the edge.   The couple was somehow ejected onto a ledge about halfway down and were pretty much unhurt.  They just needed a changing of underwear.  Their guardian angels earned a little extra that night.
