50% reduction in gear weight!
« on: October 23, 2011, 05:01:09 AM »
Where were these guys back in the day. Off the top of my head I'm thinking it would have saved me about 15-20 pounds when I was humping an M-60 all over 29Palms MCAGCC.  OOH-RAH 2/7!!  I like the looks of their sniper gear too.

I give these guys 5 Bananas.

Got curious about how much weight this really would have saved and it is closer to 10 pounds but I still would have taken that.  ;)   Not sure of the weight difference of the old Flak Jacket and K-pot's and the new generation of body armor.  Didn't include the difference in the new sleeping bags either, cus I never used it in the desert.

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice, for I am a hunter,
And I must have my freedom.

I'm not sure of the per item weight, but when in my full loadout (including rifle) I tipped the scales at 231lbs and my normal weight (clothed w/boots) was about 175.  So, even 10lbs of weight savings would be a huge benefit.

loadout would be IOTV w/front/rear/side plates, 8 mags, and misc crap stuffed in various pouches, med kit,  Kevlar, M4 w/ pec-15 & ACOG, then small ruck w/ some power bars, 4 extra mags, couple of smoke grenades, laser designator. (prob less then 10lbs)

Yeah that sounds familiar.  :P  I just looked at the weight of the old ALICE gear I was issued and added it up.  The crap that I really wanted them to reduce the weight on was my tripod and spare barrel and T&E.  I think 10 more pounds of belted 7.62 per man would have been pretty sweet.  Oh or 10 pounds of 60mm mortar rounds!  That would have bee cool too. lol

Different brand same concept.
