Well, crap. I'd been waiting to shoot this since the last one I shot, and I've got drill that weekend.

Sounds like fun. How do you participate in a Patrol Shoot if you never shot one before?

Wait for the spring shoot. There are 2 patrol shoots per year, spring and fall. Spring is open to first timers. Fall is essentially invitation only.

I think Longbow just pushes you off the tower and you do your best to survive the fall.

America is at an awkward stage, it's too late to work within the system, and to early to shoot the bastards.

the skinny from the md:

The patrol shoot for 5 Nov 11 is about here.

Signup will start at 0800 and we hope to be shooting by 0930. Match fee is $25.00. If you help in the setup it is $15.00 dollars.

To participate in the fall Patrol shoot you must have shot in some previous patrol shoot.  Please RSVP me that you will be attending the match.

Set up will start at 11AM on Friday. My erstwhile partner in crime Rocky has just undergone knee surgery, he is doing well, but will not be available to help with the shoot this fall. I need help setting this up so if you are available Friday PM  please let me know.

This year we will be starting the 4 Man Team  from the tower. The team will RAPPEL DOWN TO THE GROUND LEVEL TO START THEIR PATROL. The clock will start while on the tower.

Regarding the rappelling, I will set up a practice / intro on Thursday  the 3rd from 3pm to dark.  I will do the same later in the day on Friday. If you  have never done this it might be a good thing to check out. I would suggest you bring your rifle and the ruck you plan on using as that does change the flavor of things.  Please advise if you plan on Thursday.

Regarding round count,  bring 300 rifle, 100 pistol 50 bird shot, 10 slug you will have adequate ammo. You might throw in some heavy #2s or buck, 5 or 10 rounds. The team will need a sniper rifle with 20 rounds. If you want two such guns on the team that is allowed but no more than two. These guns will be pre-staged. The Shotguns will also be staged as a battlefield pickup.

So yes we will be shooting some shotgun.

We are  going to throw in a couple of different rules that will make the event interesting. That info will be part of the match briefing on Saturday.
Bring your own lunch and whatever support gear you need. Plan on working the resets and the match cleanup.
Let me know if you have any questions. If you have a team in mind let me know who  will be on your team.
I have tried to reach everyone interested however feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might be interested.

I'd really like the opportunity to learn to rappel, but 3 business days notice, work and 6pm sunsets preclude me from either training opportunity.  So, short of a LANO jump, what options do I have?

You can do it that way, but this is a patrol shoot... I prefer this method.
