Not knowing the exact circumstances it's hard to say if the guy was completely in the wrong. The facts stated in the article say he was interviewed by police and released. That makes me think he had reasonable justification or they would have arrested him and took his weapon. It would not be the first time a prosecutor took on case based not on facts but political or personal gain. We'll see how it plays out.

Assuming Flynn had just cause to draw his weapon, his biggest mistake he made was not being the first one to call the police.  First one to call wins.  He may have just learned that lesson the hard way.

THIS is a quintessentially excellent point.

I don't get why a guy with a gun would go out of his way to get in a scuffle with some idiot in a road rage incident.  It sound like both guys were blowing steam.  I know how ticked off I get sometimes when driving, but I will never let it escalate to more than a few dirty looks and then I go my own way.   Also, it is CCW 101 to know that if you pull a gun on someone you better be on the phone with the police before the other guy.  I don't know the deeper details, but have my suspicions.  It could be the guy just wanted to pull over to have a nice chat and then the other guy threatened him and he took

This ain't Compton for God's sake.. Seriously, I just think whatever situation occurred could have been avoided.  I have had enough middle fingers pointed at me and even had a couple of times where some belligerent roughnecks started flashing their lights, honking at me, then stopped and stepped out of their car and egged me on to a fight.  One time because I took 2 seconds to move forward when a light turned from red to green.  Yes, there was no rationale, these guys were looking to start a fight with anyone; I just happened to be in the way.   My gun is by my side, but i just look the other way and try to avoid the situation.   The angry maniacs got their gratification by screaming and cussing at me, went back into their car and sped away.   The last thing I would do is pull over to the side and try to engage in a fight with them and then have to pull a gun.  Like Duh, yeah I just wonder what happen if I decided to go and do that.  ::)

Sage advice, you go looking for trouble and you're apt to find it.
No, I know exactly what I'm doing, I just have no clue what effect it will have!

Road rage is kind of rare here....
For the most part, people in the Boise area tend to drive politely...
When I lived on the east coast, I saw fingers, reckless driving and tailgating every day...
Here, it's kind of rare...seen it happen, but rather infrequently...

Anyhow, if someone flips you off, it's best to just hit the gas and drive away...
Pulling over to whoop the guy's ass is just asking for trouble...
