5.7 info
« on: October 04, 2011, 11:07:03 PM »
Who was it, on here, that had one of these, and some of us made fun of it, because when he shot the bowling pins, it just zipped through them, and would not knock them over?

This is from another site.

Officer Munley, who was shot at Fort Hood still hasn't recovered from just two hits to the leg with 5.7 SS192 rounds (28gr OTM at 2100fps). The first hit her in the thigh and shattered her femur into 120 pieces, the second completely destroyed her knee. 2 non center mass hits put her out of the fight instantly. She just recently had a complete knee replacement operation.

2 other soldiers and an orderly at the beginning of the massacre charged/attacked the terrorist from mere feet away, and all were stopped instantaneously by hits from 5.7x28mm SS192.

Others wanted to rush him, but commented in testimony that the terrorist was able to re-load so fast that it was impossible to close the distance in time before being shot.

Several witnesses testified that the shooter fired with such rapidity that it was believed that multiple shooters were attacking.

Brassfetcher ballistics stated that that Elite S4M (supercharged version of the FN SS192 round) is slightly more damaging shot per shot than Federal .45 ACP Hydrashok 230gr JHP.

And it will vaporize an elephant with a single shot to the big toe!!! :sarcon:

Google "Fort Hood Officer Munley" and you get like 50 articles about the incident. She was hit twice in her legs but stayed in the fight and is actually the hero that stopped that asshole. No 120 piece exploding leg-bones. She did have surgery later but it was to repair an artery.

Go to brassfetcher and compare balistics for yourself

28 grains @ 2100= 274 foot pounds
230 grains @ 950= 460 foot pounds

460>274

Fun to shoot? Hell yes!!!
Better than a 230 Grain 45 Hydrashok? I doubt that!!!

5.7 is an armor piercing round, and does well at what it was designed for.  It really isn't that optimal for a soft target round.  I don't even think it would be fun to shoot.  Now a .357 Sig or a 9x25 Dillon would be "fun". :)

I found the round fun to shoot in both the pistol and carbine.. Shoots flat, negligible recoil, loud as heck, 20-30 rounds in a pistol 50 in a carbine.... just a little pricy.   A Zombie stopper... I guess if you shoot for the head anything is......What's not to like?  IMAO

5.7 is an Body armor piercing round but only with the SS190 black tip ammo, and does well at what it was designed for.  It really isn't that optimal for a soft target round.  I don't even think it would be fun to shoot.  Now a .357 Sig or a 9x25 Dillon would be "fun". :)

Fixed it  ;)
Most Level 3 vests will stop the commercial rounds, or at least they did the last time I tested it.

Yes, it didn't fair so well with either round.
But the IIIA stopped it just fine.
