Quarterly 3 gun match
« on: October 03, 2011, 09:20:20 PM »
It's that time again for the quarterly 3 gun match.  This month it will be the 29th.  I don't know if the time change will have happened by then (I think it will) so we'll set up at 08:00 and shoot at 9:30.  Cost is $20.  The first 10 people who are there to help me set up and are still there when I drive out the gate get $10 of their entry fee back for their troubles.
If you are interested in shooting but don't have all the gear, let me know.  I'll bring everything you need but the ammo and eye/ear pro.
Round count will be about the same as all the last matches.  50 shot, 50 pistol, and 50-60 rifle.  We'll have one long range stage, at least one 3 gun stage and a couple of multigun stages.  Let me know if you have any questions.
If you saw something at one of the past matchs you'd like to try at one of ours, let me know and I'll work it into the match.
Adios,
TG

This might be as good a time as any to mention that steel-core, bi-metal, incendiary or tracer rounds are not permitted at any of these 3-gun matches.  The reason being, steel core and bi metal rounds can damage the AR500 steel targets that MGM makes (none better IMO), and once damaged they become dangerous due to ricochets or frags coming back a the shooter.  So if in doubt, check your rounds with a magnet.  If it sticks, don't use it on steel!

In addition, from what TG tells me, XM193 5.56mm NATO ammo has been reported to be moving fast enough to damage AR500 steel if shot from closer than 150 yds.  Being copper jacketed and lead core, there's really no way to check somebody's ammo with a magnet, so MGM has put out an advisory not to shoot their targets with XM193 if closer than 150 yds.

For these matches, we can't take the chance of messing up the steel because it is either purchased or on loan from MGM, and these things cost money.  At the April match, somebody perforated one of the steel spinners with multiple rounds, presumably unknowingly, but caused irreparable damage that we covered from the match fees collected.

So please be mindful of the ammo you bring to a match.  Thx!

Seems like this holds true for any FMJ round...?

Our BCC Zone is specificallly designed to be a close range rifle target.  That is the one we are specifically talking about, but we wanted to reitterate the distances.

if we are hand loading fmj or tmj 55 grn rounds similar to xm193 is there a velocity we should try and keep our rounds under?
I want to keep the steel as fresh as we can and sure appreciate MGM supplying it for us!

that stuff is doing something like 3200 fps out of a 16" barrel.  I'd say try to keep them under 2800...not for the steel, but just to be safe!!!

Not sure if Travis has any planned, but the stage I drew up has a couple of slug targets in it.

If you are going to have a couple, I won't.  I don't want to break folks buying slugs!

So Ekuo already posted the stage he is planning, and I think I'm just going to poach some stages from the nationals.  I'll still have to come up with something for the long range, but plan on doing stages  3, 7, 10, and 11 from this http://www.nroi.org/nationals/images/MG%202011%20stages%20090111MV.pdf  Probably going to need at least 10 slugs....  unless you know you 50 yard zero on them.
Should be fun.

Nice!  Looks like fun.  You're still planning on using IMGA scoring, not Comstock, right?

But if you need some Comstock score sheets, I probably have some around somewhere.  LMK

Great turnout today and great weather.  Thanks for all the help with setup and tear down.  Scores should be coming up on the Parma site soon, but here is the detailed version.  Each stage is worth 100 points.  The guy with the lowest time gets 100 points.  Everyone elses time is divided into the fast time and given a portion of the 100 points based on time.  Check it over and make sure I didn't miss anything.  Thanks again.

It was a good match!  Great weather, fun squad, and good shootin'.  Thx for putting on the match, TG!

Next 3-gun match is when?  Man-on-Man on New Year's Day?
