Hi!
I'm Sarah and I am very, very new to the sport of shooting. I took my first introductory handgun course from A&M Shooting Academy last Sunday (those guys were absolutely wonderful, by the way!) and now I am in the planning and research stages of buying my first handgun. I am currently looking for the best places around Boise to shoot/practice that would welcome beginners like me. My ultimate goal is probably just to become a better shot than both of my younger brothers, one of which just returned from a year in Iraq with the 116th. Needless to say, I have my work cut out for me.
I am an eager learner so I would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you have to offer. I look forward to being a part of this forum!

Welcome! Before you buy anything ask around. I'm sure someone here will have what you are considering and would be happy to let you take it for a testdrive.
Brandi on the forums here is a great shooter and very friendly. She is also an NRA certified instructor. Link up with her. She will really help you out.
Adios

Hi Sarah!
If you don't mind me asking, where do you work at? I'm on neuro at Al's.
As always, the best gun for you is the one you will consistently carry! But just in case you wanted to know what the *other* best gun is, it's a Glock!

I work in the NICU at Al's! How long have you been on Neuro? And I am currently checking out the S&W M&P 9mm. Any thoughts on that particular gun? I was looking at the Glock but then my brother just bought the one I was looking into so I now want something different than him. You know how that goes.

My wife loves her M&P 9. The small backstrap fits her hand perfectly and it's evident in her shooting.

Welcome Sarah, it's always nice to see the ladies getting invovled not only in the shooting sports but also taking an active stance at learning how to protect themselves.
The S&W M&P pistols are a great firearm, Glocks as well. Which ever way you decide to go, I would highly recommend you spend the extra money and have the trigger modifications done to it. It will improve your accuracy as well as how comfortable and confident you feel with your particular weapon.
Best of luck to you and tell your brothers Thank you for their service!
