Let us not forget!
« on: September 10, 2011, 09:09:20 PM »
As I sit on my couch reading all the articles on various news sites about the ten year anniversary of 09/11, I look at my loving wife sleeping next to me, my dog lying at my feet and I can't help but reminisce.  I am a former US Marine who was active duty on 09/11/2001 and I remember watching the second plane crash live on the morning news.  I can still remember all the emotion and all the frustration.  I remember the hate and the rage.  I remember the confusion and the doubt.

So here I sit on my couch knowing that thousands of young (and some old ;)) men and women around the world are protecting me and my family.  They are protecting all of us.  They are there so that we can sleep at night.  They are there knowing that they may have to make that ultimate sacrifice.  They are there knowing that they are willing to make that sacrifice.

Let us not forget our past and let us not forget OUR TROUPS!  Let us not forget OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS and OUR FIRE FIGHTERS!

Sleep well America, we are protected....

I was on my way to work, living in Phoenix AZ at the time.  I remember the news of the first plane hitting and thought, oh jeese, another privte pilot hits a sky scraper in NYC, (remembering how the Empire state building had been hit back in the '60's)  Then when the second plane hit... I knew right then and there is was no accident!  My stepson is deploying to Afghanistan with the Marines in 6 days.  I am so proud of him for stepping up and doing his part, and I worry for him at the same time.  Being in Iraq for the past 3 years I have seen way too much, but I'm old and can handle it.  I worry how his young mind will handle what he's about to face?!

God Bless America!

IGN I appreciate you and your sons service to this country, It is the soldiers, the cops, and firefighters that keep us safe and america great. I remember i was in seventh grade about to go to school my mom always had the news on and i kept trying to ask her something and she didn't reply so i walked to the living room and saw that a "small plane" had accidentally hit one of the towers and about 5 minutes after i walked in we watched the other plane strike. being a kid i remember just thinking what is happening and how does this happen to us?

Very well said!  Let us never take for granted our police, firefighters, troops, and others who protect us!

I remember that day well. I was on Ft Riley. For two months after even though I never left post, I didn't get to see my family as the patrols we were doing were non stop. God bless those that are still serving and keep our heads on a swivel. Come home safe or with your honor.
