Ruger LCR for the Wife?

The wife's S&W M&P9c is almost too much for her to handle (she's a bit recoil-sensitive) so I'm considering other options that would be more comfortable for her.
I've read good things about the Ruger LCR, anyone got any good/bad personal experience to input?

Ive shot one in .38 a couple of times, i dont know how her hands fit on the m&p but i can get 1 more finger on the lcr than on a glock 26 so that may be a positive for her. I think their well made guns every time i have ever used one it has functioned perfectly and they are nice and light to carry :)

if she is recoil sensitive and the M&P 9 is too much, the LCR will be a whole new level of pain. Not even with bunny fart loads will make the LCR less than the m&p.
LCR is a great bug gun as it is small & lightweight but those same attributes make it have a decent amount of recoil.

What he said.  I've shot them...bad news.  Get her a 9mm 1911 or 2011 to shoot for fun.  Just make sure she knows the small gun is just for shooting in an emergency situation and every now and again to keep her skill with it up.

I know from personal experience how much snubbies can kick but I'm hoping that a more comfortable & better-fitting rubber grip (it's hard for her to get her hand completely around the M&P9c's double-stack grip) will help her manage the recoil better. Regardless, I'll let her give it a try then decide for herself what she likes best.

@Tomac, you may want to look into a larger, single stack 9mm (Sig P225, HK P7, steel framed Kahr) or a revolver bigger than a j-frame, perhaps with a heavier frame and thin grips for her smaller hands.

Just noticed the Sig P238, reminds me a lot of my old Colt Mustang. It's only .380 but the Mustang was a joy to shoot (can't say that about any of the blowback .380's I've tried).
I'd prefer she had a 9mm or .38 but then I'd rather she had a .380 she enjoys and is willing to practice with than something more powerful she doesn't want to shoot.

I have a Sig P-238 and several small 1911’s in both single and double stack if you would like to shoot one.
I agree with tgibson on the small 1911’s  shooting softer than the ultra-sub compacts, my wife and daughter both shoot and carry officers 1911’s in .45ACP and have always preferred them to other small pistols.

Thx for the generous offer, I might take you up on that. Wife and I are headed to Cabela's this morning so she can check out the feel of the P238 and if she likes it I'll sell her M&P9c to fund it.

Just got back from Cabela's and the wife *really* liked the little P238 over the LCR so guess what we came home with...  ;)

Cabelas also has some cheep Galco holsters listed for the Kel-Tec and Ruger #STO436 that works well for the little P238.
I wrapped mine in Saran Wrap and put it in the wet holster overnight and I'm pleased with the results.

Picked up their last box of the Corbon DPX along w/a 250rd bulk pack of practice FMJ. Headed to the Nourse range next Sunday to try it out!

I did pick up the LCR Talo edition but haven't yet been able to fire it. Hope to during the xmas holiday break given I have some time off. Not sure I'll be able to convince my wife to shoot it.  SHe's a novie and shot a S & W simialr model and hated it. Too snappy for her. Will report back then.

The wife and I are planning on hitting the Nourse range sometime soon so she can try her P239 w/Hogue grips. If we can arrange a time, your wife could try the P238 for comparison.

Try a box of .38 Colt Short.  My wife enjoys them.  Practise with shorts, carry regular loads.

I have a Colt Pocket 9 that could really use a cheap holster while it waits for it's number to come up at Milt Sparks.  Do you think the cheap Galco would fit a P9 with the Saran trick?

Yeah, I had one some12 years ago, before I had much experience with guns...thinking back I must have put 1500rds down that thing without a failure. Wish I still had it.   :'(
